Super Newbie
Hi,

My old computer crashed and burned...

My new computer has Windows 7 64 bits.

All my plugins are all 32 bits. I would rather NOT have to update those to 64 bits!

I am just re-installing Sonar X2 and it is giving me the choice of 32 or 64 bits.

If I install X2 in 32 bit, will my 32 bit plugins work even though I am now running W7 64 bits?

Thanks in advance,
James

PS don't need the extra power of 64 bit. My system and projects are pretty basic.

Yes, they should work OK.

Yes, absolutely it will work fine, that's how I'm running Sonar. What the 64 bit version of Sonar and plugins offer is when your projects start approaching the 3 gigs of ram limit of a 32bit OS, they will be able to address more memory then 32bit allows--which is around 3 gigs.

Yes, SONAR 32-bit should work the same as it did before, including the 32-bit plug-ins.

There is no support for 64-bit DXI plugins.  Many, probably most, of your 32-bit VST plugins should work.

Moving to a 64-bit Windows environment from 32-bit opens up more memory, from a 4 GB (about 3.3 GB usable) to now accessing roughly up to 192 GB of memory.  In addition, each clock pulse processes twice the data 64 bits rather than 32 bits, which increases performance.

Several folks have also posted that they hear better sound quality in using the 64-bit plugins.

But to your original post, as I said above, most VST plugins should work just fine in 64-bit Sonar.
