• SONAR
  • I sure hope they release an update for X2 soon. (p.4)

> @ Alex have you experienced any of theses issues????????

Nope but I'll sure be looking out for them now. From your description they appear at first glance to be X2 issues and not a device driver issue. I say log 'em for their QA to test and be damned :).

Cheers

It makes absolutely no sense that X2 users would need to have Visual Studio. For one thing, Visual Studio 2012 is not free. For another thing, it's for software developers.

Wouldn't install Visual studio and Sonar on the same partition at all (I've got it on another partition for software development). Too bloaty.

Library for C++ could make sense (which comes with Visual studio), but Sonar should install the necessary C++ libraries anyway and Microsoft should update them with Windows update if required (assuming they are using a shared C++ library).

You don't have to use lanes though. It's optional.

Hi sharke...

Using Sonar is optional as well if you want to look at it that way.  Working with layers has long been part of my most important workflow and lanes are the replacement... if I want or need to edit clips that overlap each other ion the same track, I must use lanes and I can't say I'm happy with them. I find them terribly abusive to my work flow as well as very difficult for me to see with their' zoom issues...

they have made a a very unhappy camper right now so I'm anxiously awaiting the update in hopes that the Bakers have found and implemented some method(s) of dealing with these issues...

...and more to the point, I didn't think I was in a competition here... simply a frustrated X2 user in need of a helpful (for me) update...

I was under the impression, from what they said in the webinar, that lanes were totally optional and you could use layers exactly the same way as before if you preferred this. I've also heard it said on this forum, too....can someone confirm this?

Again..... There are many things that need to be updated. The idea that something shouldn't be fixed because ONE or two members have not encountered it is lame. There are all kinds of confirmed bugs and issues that hopefully will get solved. In the meantime, I'm on standby........hoping.........

Yeah, that's my thinking as well, though Visual Studio express editions are free.  The only way this could make sense is if there's some newer version of some .DLL or something like that that gets installed with Visual Studio that is not yet available through Windows Update.  Other than that it just doesn't make sense to me.

@Sharke > When they say Lanes are optional, I think they are only talking about automation lanes. You can't go back to layers as they were before... but if you collapse the automation Lanes, you can see the ghosted envelopes with the wave form as you used to. If you hold down the shift button as you mouse over the various envelopes, you can identify the envelopes. If you then click on one, it activates that envelope. I often do this for touching up or where I want to see the track full screen for finer work. You can maximize the track (harder to do with the automation lanes). You can also see the wave form under the envelope rather than above it.

When you are told you can do it the old way or the new way, I think the new way is to do envelope automation in-lane where the old way is to do envelope automation with lanes collapsed.
