Hello! I have a harmonizer-program (realtime harmonizer), I want to use with Sonar X1. I must open both programs to use the harmonizer. Problem: The midi devices in Sonar X1 disappear, when I open the harmonizer before (When I open Sonar X1 at first, the harmonizer does not function). I am not able to chose devices in the midi-settings: Settings --> Midi --> Devices --> Choose device --> Choose/Take it --> Problem: It does not take the choice Strange: As I bought the harmonizer, there was the same problem; then - some time - it worked. And now, there is the problem of the beginning. I tried all kinds of midi-connections (also took away some midi-devices). I still have that problem. The only midi-device I can chose is the virtual midi cable which is the "midi out" of the harmonizer. Any ideas what to do? I could get crazy...

Check the box in the Preferences to allow Sonar to share resources with other programs.

Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording

That might help,

Good idea, unfortunately, there is no change. All midi-devices are further thrown out (except for the virtual midi cable).

This may be a silly question, but could your harmonizer program be latching on to control your midi devices, preventing them from being able to be selected in Sonar?

What is the name and version number of this harmonizer?

Is this harmonizer program a VST plug-in? Otherwise I don't think it will work with Sonar if its not a plug-in. It definitely won't work if you're using ASIO mode for your soundcard. I agree with Bob... you have to tell us the name of the program.

If it is this midi hamoniser http://www.johanlooijenga.com/tools/5-apps/45-version3.html it looks like the device inputs go into the harmoniser & Sonar would connect to the harmoniser by its virtual output port (ie Sonar's track midi input would be set to the harmoniser's virtual output port)

Yes, it is the MIDI real-time Harmonizer version 3 of Johan Looijenga. It is no plugin; you must open it as standalone Bob, I contacted Mr. Looijenga because I also thought, it could be the harmonizer causing the problem. But he said no and was astonished. Yes, I have Asio drivers, but I have to repeat: For a long time, all worked. But I do not know what caused THAT it worked (In the beginning I had the same problem). And I do not know what caused that it does not work anymore now. In the harmonizer, I changed nothing. So, there have to be a problem in Sonar.

Now, I have an idea what the problem caused... (Unfortunately not a solution...) I changed a midi-in device (wireless midi connection). It seems, as if it is not possible to share the new device (Widi XU) between the harmonizer and sonar. The earlier device (Midair) was accepted by both programs simultaneously. With Midair, it was possible to choose several virtual "Midi ins"; Widi only offers one Midi-Port. Perhaps, that is the problem? Does someone have an idea to get both programs to share the new "Midi in"-port of the Widi-device?

I have not heard of Sonar causing that, although it is I suppose possible.

Perhaps checking the Widi Xu support pages will turn up something. Bob Bone
