Dave King
Hi,

If you have a moment, would you please give these songs a quick listen.  I'm happy with them, but a little concerned that the high end may be a little too sizzly.  I did all of the recording, mixing, mastering, etc.  Your comments will be appreciated...

Neither is excessively sizzly.  You could roll off the top on the cymbals and tambourine on the second song just a  tiny bit for my taste.

I'm just a Newb here, so don't listen to me. But for what it's worth :
In the first song I thought yes, the highs are a bit searing, e.g. on the harp parts. I also thought the song might profit from a bit more foundation in the low end overall.
The second example sounds fine to my untrained ears.

Both great songs!

Good Dylan/Barenaked Ladies impression.

Wookiee
Sound OK here but these are ageing furry alien ears so perhaps others may hear more sizzle.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm older than Wookiee and I too do not hear sizzle. For me there was certain lack of sheen to the mixes.

Mix-wise, maybe a tiny cut to the harp's highs in the first tune, and the same for the left-side guitar in the second song.   And maybe a bit more presence in the lead vocals.

Mixes aside... nice songs!   Catchy melodies, clever lyrics and nicely arranged.  The second one in particular is like a lost Motown song.  Cool.

Thanks for the comments.

I had a heck of a time EQ-ing the harmonica.  I had to cut some of the frequencies severely to get what I have now.  You chould have heard it before!  lol

Glad to hear that comments are generally postive.

Like Wookie and bapu, I've begun to question my ability to accurately ascertain high frequencies properly due to rock and rolling for many years!  This was the primary reason for creating this thread - I was looking for confirmation that I'm in the ballpark on the high freqs.

Thanks!

The production is good.  I can hear all instruments very well.  I heard a pop on the lead vocal - maybe check out a HP filter for it.  The lead vocal sits right where it should.  I think you could use some more instrumentation in the bridge.  Like the harp.

What I hear is a nice top end with the high mids quite prominent and sounding very clean. Perhaps a little air right up the top might help but that could be just a personal thing.
What I miss most is a bit of bottom end, it sounds like most everything has been high passed and it's taken all the drive and feel from the rhythm. Might be my system but I'm listening on headphones and I would have expected to hear most of the low end and I'm just not getting a lot.
Hope this helps.
