Is there a (simple) way to get Triangle II to work in X2 64-bit?

On a recommendation from here, I decided to read/work my way through Simon Cann's "Cakewalk Synthesizers:  From Presets to Power User" (2nd edition) and try to get a little smarter about them.  But I ran into a major problem right at the beginning, because the first hands-on stuff requires using the Triangle II synth, which doesn't come with X2.  Innocent that I am, I thought I'd just download it from cakewalk.com as suggested, install it, and it would just work.  HA!!  What a fool!

Now, after many hours of frustration (and after having to completely reinstall X2, because somehow I managed to kill it while trying to get this little toy operational), I have at least got it functioning as a standalone.  It shows up on the synth list in X2, but refuses to load (this under Windows 7 with a Gina 24 card, ASIO driver).  Since it's working as a standalone, and I don't really need it for much longer, maybe it shouldn't matter that much, but I thought I'd post this message about it anyway, in case any one else runs into the same situation.  I gotta say, it's pretty discouraging to start a book with high hopes of learning something practical about the synths in X2, and immediately getting swamped in technical issues regarding one that isn't even part of the package.

You could try dxishell http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/printview.php?t=177538&start=0
Thanks.  I looked at that, and realized I didn't know for sure what sort of plug-in Triangle II is.  So I dug around and found out it was VST, and thought I'd try a different angle.  I made a folder for it in the VST Plugins directory of X2, and copied over the three files related to it that were in the Program Files (x86) directory.  And that worked!!  Can't believe after all that trouble, the fix was so easy (not to mention sort of a no-brainer, in a way).

It's obvious in hindsight, but there really were some weirdnessess - I mean, why would it show up in the synth list if X2 couldn't find it?  And the installation is strange - it's the only install I can remember ever seeing that creates a directory in Windows Program Files (x86), but then parks the actual program files one notch up in the directory hierarchy instead of in the directory it created.  I don't know what would happen if the VST Plugins directory was specified as the place to install it.

Anyway, I hope anyone reading the Cakewalk Synthesizers book who runs into this issue can learn from my experience.

Another question - how does the "[Solved]" note get added to thread subject lines?

So it is a VST. It has been a few years since I played with it. Probably when I was working through Cann's book. Anyway, edit your original message and update the subject line to add "SOLVED."
