• SONAR
  • X1 x64 stopped working with Focusrite Scarlett 18i6!

Somehow after installing the updates required by Focusrite, my Scarlett 18i6 shuts down their Scarlett MixControl 1.1 software as soon as Sonar accesses it. So I am completely down!  After several iterations of installs (i.e. going back to earlier versions etc.) I am still unable to get the audio interface to work. I did notice this morning that the latest release note states:

Known Issues:
- Not passing audio when connected to some USB 3 ports
- "Dim" and "Mute" buttons in Scarlett MixControl affecting level of 'Grey' outputs
- 64 bit DAWs cannot open Scarlett Mix Control using their "Control Panel" audio options (Windows)

DING!

So it looks as if the 64 bit issue is my problem. If any of you are using a stable Focusrite interface on 64, DO NOT UPGRADE your firmware, MixControl etc. until this gets resolved!

Which means you can open the mix control app away from your DAW right (as stand alone)?

No big issues with my focusrite interface and Win8.... Always read the tin before upgrading, and always backup and get ready to restore before upgrading!

Cheers...

Yes - the MixControl app works fine stand-alone and with Windows Media, Sound Forge 8.0 etc.

Hmm... Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize there was an update. As I am running 64bit as well I think I'll be avoiding it or contacting Focusrite before installing. BTW the Focusrite guys are really helpful. Might want to shoot them an email. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Matt didn't show up in this very thread.

You out there, Matt?

I use the 18i6 with win7 no probs (although sometimes when the internet is on it can drop out for some strange reason). I can access the control panel within X2.

The focusrite people are very helpful I agree

@whack... But have you installed this new update? I think that's the problem. BTW it was one of your threads that prompted me to get the 18i6. Great unit. Cheers.

oohhhh, good question! maybe I havent, ill check what driver version later compared to the website one, by the sounds I would be advised otherwise.

No probs, solid unit for sure.

Actually, that issue refers to a DAWs ability to launch MixControl from it's preferences (ASIO panel in the Driver Settings tab of Sonar's preferences).  It sounds like you are experiencing a different issue.

I would suggest trying the latest public beta release of Scarlett MixControl as found at beta.focusrite.com

I understand that some people are a bit apprehensive about beta versions, but we do not release public betas until they are very stable.

Once you install it, run MixControl and let it do the firmware update that it will prompt.  Once this is done, test to see if you are still experiencing the same problem.  If you are, please contact Focusrite support via this link:  http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/contact.php

hmm... I just realized you said you have Scarlett MixControl 1.1. The version I have is 1.1.128.0

My driver version is 2.3.0 API 3.0.

Firmware version 198

All of my stuff is working with X2 64 (and X1 64). What exactly are you running? You can check by opening the MixControl software, clicking "Help" > "About". Maybe you need to update MixControl. There are older versions of the Focusrite stuff that did not play nice with Sonar so maybe that is what is happening. Essentially if you updated one thing but not the others perhaps that is causing the problem. Cheers.
