Hey,

I can't find my post from the other day, anyhow my X2 on Win 8 x64 was crashing all over the place, so I reformatted, reinstalled 7 and all my stuff (a days work) to find I have the self same issue in Win 7. Really never had any Sonar issues till X2.

Sweet.

Anyhow, X1 on here in this config was rock solid. What would be the best way to get X1d back on this box? I have stuff to do and can't mess with X2 any longer.

What custom install should I perform for X1d, I obviously don't wanna reinstall all the VST?

Thanks as ever for any forthcoming advice everyone. Will shelve X2 till some patches arrive.

Did you install the X2 hotfix?  X2 was a crashfest until the hotfix for me.

Shame you don't feel you can stick with X2 and sort out the issues you're having. Many people here are running it just fine - but's that's your choice, obviously and I understand you just want the quickest route back to a working DAW.
Difficult to suggest a 'custom' install as I don't know what you need - the following assumes you just wish to install a subset of the VSTs included with X1.
  • make sure you have no remnants of an earlier SONAR installation hanging around - folders, registry settings, etc. If you are not comfortable with editing the registry don't do it.
  • get the latest Windows 7 drivers for your hardware, including chipset, video, etc. (see your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website) and especially your audio interface and any other music-related hardware you use
  • ensure Windows has all the latest patches applied
  • install X1, deselecting the VSTs you don't want (if you don't have the DVD or the original download, download it again from your store account)
  • run X1 and register it
  • install the X1c update from here - http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013250
  • if you have Producer Expanded, install that next, again, download from your store account if you don't have it to hand
  • finally install X1d from here - http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013277

I hope you get it sorted out and get back to making music

Yeah quickfix it. If that does not resolve it I can entirely understand rewinding back back to X1 until one or two service releases come out.

Thanks for the replies all. I want to leave X2 installed, but install X1 alongside...If you see what I mean, which is an odd way around of doing things, hence my question. I've also hotfixed X2 (yeah, I missed that) and I've tweaked the config file to see if things improve. Thanks again all,

What are you having problems with? You can just install X1 normally and use it alongside X2 AFAIK. Do you have the discs? If not it should still be in your store account and I'm assuming the patches should still all be on the site considering many people are still on X1. Cheers.

Hopefully now that you've hot-fixed it, you'll be good. Sonar X2 isn't perfect, but it's certainly stable with the hotfix applied.

No reason why you shouldn't get sonar x2 working on a fresh install with win 7. Install it and win 7 on an Ssd drive will improve things no end.
You will get breverb not working sometimes, pita glitches, but it shouldn't be crashing all the time. Most stuff now I have workarounds for, like re starting x2 to get breverb working. I would stick with 64 bit plugins and synths and it kind of works. After working with breverb for a few weeks, it ain't all that and doesn't work well in a mix. My lexi mpx1 reverbs trounces it for usability still. It does sound appealing at first, a bit different. But not really useable. But x2 is a great bit of software really when alls said and done. Hot fix is a must. Without it, x2'is a piece of crud.

One thing you can do to help us help you is to list your FULL system spec in your signature

Without that, we're all pissing in the wind
