I want to get a similar vocal sound to 'I Hear You Knocking' - anyone remember that one.

How do you achieve that vocal sound?

Thanks - rev

Start with VX-64 Distorted Telephone preset.

You could try re-amping, which is probably how the effect was achieved in that recording. Record the vocal normally, then send it out to a small guitar amp and re-record it. That's the old-school method.

I've also used Guitar Rig to achieve the effect. If I had to do it today I'd probably start with FF Saturn, which has become my go-to dirty-up tool.

Drop your mike in your coffee or beer depending on time of day.

Those Shure Bullet mikes sound like that too.

I used to do sound for a band that the singer also played harp.
He tried a small amp but it would feedback so he used a Tube Screamer in line to the PA ( DI Box) with the Bullet. He would sing through it just for kicks and it sounded just like that.
