I came across these cables in a regular hardware store just yesterday and was shocked by how much you can spend on just an USB cable.
 
Low-jitter, low distortion USB cables? You can spend more on one 3m cable than you pay for a really nice 10in/8out audio interface ...
 
So does anybody really believe in this?

Yeah, all that is baloney.

USB signal "quality" is only minimally related to price. Once you get one that is made to the basic standard, everything else is pretty much hype. I never paid more than $0.60 a foot for one.

But if you want to believe the audiophiliacs you can never pay too much. Scroll down on this order form and I am sure you can find something to impress your friends.

I thought I'd rather stay away from those low-jitter, low-distortion cable for the sake of low jitter in my wallet and less distortion with the missus

I actually run part of my USB lines via 2x 8m extenders and was surprised how nice that works (given that you first eliminated the other sound deteriorating influences like ground loops)

The reason 'Boutique' USB cables are bogus is that the USB data signal is balanced - just like audio cables - it's immune to common mode noise.

Well the price on the 'high end' on is probably kinda justifiable if all the components are made out of pure silver, but as for an audio quality difference?!? Ha! It's all digital! Sometimes I wonder if the publication date on these things was 1st of April...

Ok now this one REALLY makes me laugh. iPhone USB cables?!?! Reducing distortion?!?!?!?!?!?! It charges the phone and transfers files! There is no distortion to reduce! It's DIGITAL! If it screws up, you just do it again. And it NEVER screws up cause of distortion in a cable! Sheesh...

I bought for my fireface 400 a Monster cable Fw400 gold plated ...and it's just rock solid and trouble free ....usless on desktop , priceless on laptop (specially aluminum based) with ground issues ....
