I am using it, at least trying to... But I don't know if i am having some kind of bug here, but I can't cut layers to choose different parts of each one to build a best take... Is there any secret to use them or my system is really buged?

But this is X1... X2 have this new layer thing... Apparently isn't working here or it is a stupid upgrade, wich i believe is not the case...

Have you tried using the mute tool's isolate function?  That is the same in X1 and X2.

FBB's videos cover that in X1 but it works the same in X2, only with Layers instead of Lanes.  The use of the Mute tool is the same.

I would imagine that his SWA X2 videos cover it in X2, if you want to buy them, which I recommend.

If not, come back and I'll go through my experience of them, but I'm off to bed now.

FBB might turn up soon, and confirm/correct me.

Hi Mauricio

Although layers have moved to lanes there is little difference when it comes to comping with the mute tool.

Just hold down the ctrl key and drag select the part you want to keep as per the video jb101 linked earlier.

Another method is split the clips at the break points and then delete the parts you don't want. To create the comp use the "Fade clips" command from the TV---->Clips menu, that will create cross fades at the break points. I find that works well with continuous material with no clean phrase breaks.

I find a few pros and cons.....Take lanes can't be minimised or enlarged quite as well as layers could be but on the plus side the control over them is much easier now with the larger mute and solo buttons, plus I find the notes area really helpful. YMMV of course.

I'd like to see a "shrink track - enlarge all takes" buttons as well. I'm sure they'll improve over time though.

If that's not working for you I'm not sure why not but it should.

Layers are awesome, don't get used to them if you plan to upgrade to X2 :)
