Damn. 2 weeks ago he played a surprise show a few doors from my house. I thought "nah, i'll get him next time." I guess not.
I found his music to be very hit and miss. But even for the stuff i didn't like, you knew he knew exactly what he was doing. And he was doing exactly what he wanted.
Been there, done that. Totally regret it. Will never not live in the moment again.
Long story:
Chicago. Around 1980. Bob Marley was coming through. I'd never seen him before, but had all of his music and loved it. A young lady I knew had 2 tickets, and invited me, but I turned her down. I was afraid of her, physically. She was Swiss; a tall, solid, bigger than me chiro student at National in Lombard (along with my both of my brothers). She had practiced chiro on me, and let's just say that she wasn't the most gentle I've experienced. As soon as she asked me out, I flashed on the pain likely to come later in the evening, and said "No."
One of the dumbest things I've ever done. Bob passed shortly after that show, and I never did get to see him live.
I'm still kicking myself for that mistake 36 years later. Wish I could forget.
Damn, but could Prince play the guitar! RIP, mi amigo!
