Thanks for your input.

Not sure what the "inf" means. However I have downloaded the latest Chipset for my motherboard
(Asus P8Z77-V Pro Thunderbolt). I have updated most drivers and bios. I will install the chipset update and see if that helps.

Eric: for starters lest install chipset/inf drivers for your motherboard thats running win8.. goto motherboard home page / support / drivers / chipset/inf win8. You can see the end of FW happing really soon , this is total BS!

Erik: how are you doing with the chipset drivers ? you might have to read a little if you need todo this : How to install Legacy IEEE 1394 Firewire driver in Windows 8 x86 MOTU

I have installed the updates now. No success.

I Switched to USB instead. No success either even if it played ok (2.9 ms on 128). FW had 2.8 ms on 128, so minor improvement in terms of latency. However the pops were fewer with FW. I mostly hear clicks/pops when closing a 3rd party plugins in Sonar X2 Producer. (64 bit) on Windows 8. Perhaps a software problem more than hardware. Well. guess I need to try some more...

Guys guys... why do you need firewire to browse the interweb, check the weather, and read email? I don't get it...

Assuming you are running Intel turn off Speedstep in the BIOS, AMD it's PowerNow.

I once again tried to run my FW card over a PCI Express card with TI chipset. For now it works pretty well (Asio drivers).

It seem that my problem were more related to 32 bit pugins. A lot of them don't work very well (yet?) in Windows 8. I will uninstall those that don't work, and go for the 64 bit mainly.

Imagine that you have paid hundreds of dollars for a Firewire audio interface - maybe just recently - and now you are being told that the new  Windows OS "may" not support it.

"Get" it now?

I always felt/informed decision,  FireWire was superior to USB because it was designed for media throughput.
