Dude... if it's at split points did you try zooming in more like I mentioned? If you are zoomed out too far the Smart Tool won't hook into the hotspots properly. I have to zoom out every time I slip edit or change fades.

Seriously try it. If you already have then IDK what could be going on because it's working here and I've been editing for the past few days in X2.

There is no way to slip edit either end of clip that has fade in or fade out. The NotSoSmartTool wants to adjust the fades, and will not allow me to slip edit the clip.
I've been having the same problem - but I just went back in to SONAR and played around, and it *does* seem to depend on how high or low on the clip edge you go. I don't really see a "system" but (even on a minimised clip) if I go up and down the edge of a clip with a fade on it - the cursor changes from the "slip edit" one to the "fade edit" one.

As a matter of fact - sometimes it seems to like the mouse slightly *outside* of the clip - for slip editing.

interesting....

I think they figured that you "should" be zooming in real far when working on slip edits & fades so now you Have to or it doesn't work right. Zoom in bro & it works fine then. I don't like it either but it is what it is.

I'm not sure why you're having trouble with fades and slip edits but I've just knocked up a short and sweet video so you can see how it should work. You'll see I'm zoomed out as far as I can vertically and if I zoom much further out horizontally my poor old eyes won't see the clip nevermind be able to edit it.

Perhaps there some sort of graphic bug at work here? Short video here

If I understand Karl its also when two clips are next to one another that the OP has a problem.

Hey guys Thanks for the replies.
Karl, thanks for taking the time to do a video.

99.9% of the time slip editing works as advertised.

I thought I somewhat had a recipe for when it would act up. But with a recent project that theory went to poop.

I don't know why it randomly chooses not to work. Most of the time it is when there is little or no space between clips the cursor refuses to change to anything other than the fade tool regardless of where the cursor is placed on the clip.

I thought about posting a video showing the behavior however there is little point.  The problem exists (for me anyway) and is easy enough to understand what is happening. All a video would do is cause head scratching as to why it is doing it.

Since others do not seem to be having a problem with it, it shows the problem is not universal and there is little point in filing a bug report.

I am currently working on another album and have noticed the behavior 1 time on 1 project.  Hopefully I will not run into another problem like I had with the project that caused me to start this thread.

Thanks again! :)

That works okay as well here. In the video I split the clip and although I don't dwell on it I do drag a fade and slip edit at the split.

It seems strange that it's affecting some and not others which is why I wonder whether it's a graphic bug of some sort. I use ATI graphics BTW.

Kevo, can you please post a video clip showing the behavior?

Thanks,

Here's a vid of the problem.

This shows the problem at the beginning of a clip. This one is very easy to work around.
I can zoom in on the clip (which I should not have to do), or remove the fade to slip edit.

However, my major complaint is when comping and there is no room between clips, zooming does not work.
The fade must first be removed before the clip can be slip edited.

Again 99.9% of the time slip editing works.

I was curious if anyone else has noticed this behavior.
If so, it should be reported as a bug.
