  • Problem with SI Drum Kit

I have the Sonar X1 LE edition which was bundled when I bought the Roland Tri-Capture interface
Just starting to put together my first project and I want to use the included Soft Synth SI Drum Kit

I have added the Soft Synth, and, because I want a nice easy way to program my own drum track, I have opened the Keyboard Roll
So that I can have a nice visual view of each beat on each drum. This looks OK, and I have changed the keyboard displayed on the left so that
it shows the notes from General MIDI Drums.

I get sound feedback when I click on those notes, and I get sound feedback when I add beats to the grid on the right.
But, not all of the beats are played when I playback the track
I though initially that maybe the the General MIDI drum was not mapped correctly to the Kit, but even if I add say 12 beats of the Bass Drum, only two or three of those beats are played back. Its usually the first beat, then somewhere around the seventh beat are played but all of the others are silent.  Its odd because the notes are audible when I add them, and there seems to be no pattern as to which of them can be heard during playback.  I checked the event list and they are all there, and they all have the same velocity etc...

Being a newbie I am getting a bit frustrated that I cant even create a simple drum track, so I just wondered if anyone could think of anything obvious that I might have missed.

Thanks in advance

Further info...
I dragged a drum loop from the SI drum kit straight onto my track and it doesn't Sy properly. For example the closed hi hat is completely silent.

Very confused now

Why would the bass drum only play the first beat and then no more beats
I could understand if I had mapped to the wrong kit and some parts of the kit did not work but I have a drum that sounds the first beat only and then randomly sounds again Around beat 12

This is a fairly common problem if the stock sound card is being used. But you have the tri-capture.
Are you using the tri-capture exclusively for I/O, and are you using its ASIO drivers?
Give us a little more info on your hardware set up.
As for mapping, you should have a map specific to SI Drums available. You need to scroll way down the list to see it.

For those randomly skipped MIDI-notes (like the the kick you mention) are usually due to too low MIDI-buffer.
Double the digit at " MIDI buffers, prepare using xxx ms buffers". That should help.

Thanks Guys I will check these things and get back to you..
I am using the Tri-Capture exclusively I think.. I have assigned it as the output for the master track and then
my other tracks to output through the master.
I couldn't see a drum map which was for SI Drums but I will double check this again
To be honest (with my limited knowledge) I assumed that if I had a drum map problem, then I would not hear the selected drum at all, or I would hear a different drum than the one selected.  But I am hearing beats 1 and 12, and the ones in between are not heard.
I don't think I am using the ASIO drivers though.  I'm gonna check this when I get home
and I will also check the MIDI-buffer settings

Fingers crossed....thanks for your suggestions, I will let you know

It works !

Problem was that playback and record was set to ue MME and not ASIO
Now I get full playback of all the drum beats....excellent

I have no drum map for the SI Drum kit though. Its not in the list
Or am I doing this wrong?

Good deal. The ASIO drivers will give your interface all around better performance.

It's possible you don't have a drum map for SI.
Not a huge deal, as SI is GM mapped. The notes will play properly. The SI map is handy when you are working in PRV.
It shows only the drums that are actually in SI.
How are you getting to the drup map?
Are you selecting it as the output for your MIDI track?
Or are you inserting SI as a Simple Instrument track?
In that case, you wouldn't see the drum map as an output option.

Thanks..
It does all seem to be OK with the General MIDI Drum map.
I havent really explored this side of things yet as I have just been trying to get a drum track going.
At lease now I have a working track and I can create notes (beats) using the piano roll.
I dont have a step sequencer option but perhaps this is not available in the LE version
Anyway I will use the piano roll it seems to be quite simple.
What I did was right click on the piano keyboard and popup titled "Note Names" appears
Then I choose the option "Use the Note names instead" and drop the list box down
Then choose General MIDI Drums from the list.
I have insterted SI as a MIDI track. The input says Omni and the output says SI-DrumKit1
