I was skeptical about rumors of Google's social manipulation, but there may be something to it. Most of it is not devious, just conditioning that's a natural consequence of our dependence on search engines to tell us what's real and what's important.

Interestingly, if you Google "search engine" the first two hits are DuckDuckGo and Dogpile.
