I am also skeptical of win 10 being problematic here...

I am experiencing the exact same problem! It has been most frustrating. I have been in touch with MOTU thinking that my 16a is the problem. It was only after I reinstalled all motu hardware an des then even tried a roland sound card that I began to point a finger at Sonar....it has been ultra frustrating and like others, I am sure that my many CS request are lost in the void.
If anyone has any idea as to how we can work around this, please let us know. I also thoroughly spec'd the configure files , thinking that perhaps some magical single parameter mod would bring me back to drop out free performance...no such luck. I was even thinking of a re I stall for sonar buy stopped short of this as it's always a problem. Since others are experiencing frequent and unprovoked dropouts, I would suggest that Cakewalk look into this as a priority...we can't work. :(

Find an instance of Sonar that is Stable, resist the urge for Monthly Updates they are indicative of problems then solutions. At least give the updates time to mature before installing.

IGMAB. To answer...

They should show at the bottom, hmmmm. I6700k 32gig ddr 4 ram, ud5 thunderbolt mobo. Two HD 1tb each, 7200 rpm. Way overkill cpu cooler. Fast. Latency monitor only shows 10% load on any of the graphs with a average size project.

I got dropouts with MOTU 1248 connected usb2, and connected thunderbolt with (latest drivers and firmware) AND PreSonus RM32ai connected FireWire 800 (latest driver).

I updated OS, all firmware, all drivers and shutdown internet connectivity. Rebooted. 1 dropout in 3 days now since the last WIN update with Platinum. None with Studio One, 3. I edited a 40 channel 16 stereo buss project 44.1 24 bit project with on average 2 vst’s In each channel and 2 on each bus for four hours last night (average size). No problem. . Neither of the 8 thread monitors go over 20% on average. The base system is pretty sound.

I suspect it might be the WUP background process as the primary culprit. I can’t tell you that with 100% certainty. I did have one dropout however.

X1 Expanded,X2,x3, Dell XPS L502x totally fine.
Factory refurb Lenovo w540 i7-4900MQ(twice the cpu bench blah-terrible DPC)as since celemony Dells 2.0 GHz Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM,was maxing, and coincidentally breaking the little Dell-both usb 3.0 ports got shoved inside after tumbling + interface local 9v adaptor fried everything (VS-100,adaptor obviously, and my favourite vintage BOSS DS-1),except the seriously "Hair Losing"annoyances of the remaining singular USB 2.0/eSATA combo which is stupidly impractical,as you had to pull OUT the USB plug just the perfect amount to get EVERYTHING to work-and it did(unless you breathed too violently)....losing all connectivity,so I LOVE Platinum-love the new added functions, but FATAL ERROR's,100's Hr's Lost work, haven't exported a NEW project for 13 months, also I'm just a guitar player-I'm NOT an AUDIO ENGINEER. it's a simple fact UNTIL?

P.s. We've had major family tragedies, issues,so USER ERROR is the No. 1 factor, and with THE sheer annoyance with EVERYTHING seeming fine(DPC is resolved enough by turning off ALL Internet adaptors,wi-fi etc),it's this weird refurb US 110 volt PC /Laptop even with a solid 500 watt TOP DOLLAR fully capable INVERTER with "US wall plug type 110 volt" correct everything, and me not wanting to painstakingly reinstall, and re authorize $3k USD of plugins.

SONAR Platinum works fantastic....then another Windows 7 x64 bit FATAL ERROR(sometimes after UTTER flawless 15 hours of sonar),then BAM a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional FATAL ERROR-no cakewalk reporting possibilities, and ESPECIALLY NO RETRIEVABLE DATA despite Ctrl S,and obviously"Preferences Save after every"etc,SO after the 20th/30th time when EVERYTHING seems fine(YET AGAIN)-it's time out again, and awesome-there goes another Microsoft? Lenovo? SONAR ? FATAL ERROR,so I need another machine simple, just too much has been hampering that: so PLEASE PLEASE POST,after my little speck of dust problems,as THE THREAD STARTER,would certainly appreciate more input,SO post AFTER my little deal,in the 'bigger picture' I'm like the Advertisement (for DAW psychological whatever?)so
Please carry on.
Bob(with the silly bit after my name bob that I'd change, but I do not? and SW?)
So again please POST PEOPLE

I finally got my problems fixed by uninstalling my computers HD audio drivers.  After the latest Win 10 update, I had to uninstall them again.  Plus I make sure my ASIO buffer size is set at 512, and that eliminates the Audio Engine stoppage. On my DAW, the buffer size set at 512 is the perfect setting, no latency and no pops.

When I add Ozone 8 to the master bus, I do get some occasional clicks/pops.  So on a few occasions I bump the buffer size up to 768, but that's only after I finished all the tracking and mixing, when I enable Ozone 8 for mastering.  I also freeze/bounce most of the VSTi tracks before mastering, especially Superior Drummer 3, which tends to be a resource hog.

Thanks Leee, I thought as much, I will try that!
Also, to note I notice that i can't switch off my wi-fi so something is also errant with those drivers as well.

I read this post with great interest!!

I am plagued with audio dropouts and VST "no audio" as well -  almost on a daily basis now and also getting "sonar.exe has stopped working" messages which need either reboot or a complete PC shutdown.

The Sapphire shows audio in the level meters but doesn't output any into my mixer.

As for Sonar, I've been using it for years, but it's getting to the point I need to try something else - this is a crazy waste of time and like Leee I can't afford to chase around potential solutions instead of getting on with the music.
