I get Audio Engine dropouts if I run the project, stop it, then insert a UAD plugin. If the engine is not running and I insert the UAD plugin it's fine. Note that the project is not playing, it's idle, so the idling engine decides to stop with the error message. Any other plugin seems to be fine. This type of behavior seems to indicate that the audio engine is rather fragile even if it's not actually playing anything, and reasons for it stopping may be other than the documentation suggests. 
 
You could try changing some of the playback settings, see if "Suspend Audio Engine when Sonar is not in focus" changes anything, or "Plugin load balancing", or "Always Stream Audio Through FX", or "Always open all devices". 

Looks like this behavior is becoming more widespread, as evidenced in this thread and others. I have been having these issues for quite a while and have been going crazy trying to chase down an answer. I truly believe it has to be something within Sonar. The only things that have changed on my studio computer system have been Windows 10 updates and Sonar updates. Everything else on this computer works as usual, Sonar is the only thing that is having issues. 

FWIW, I'm still on Win7 with a less than cutting edge system, but I'm just not seeing any of this behavior.   Sure, I reach the limits of my system when loading multiple synths and FX (which I always do), but otherwise both the 09 and 10 SONAR releases seem to be on par with every previous version on my end.

I am totally disheartened....I hope that Sonar Support is reading this thread...there's something terribly wrong with the way Sonar and Win 10 are working together..
I am getting constant Dropouts and very poor functionality.

FWIW I am suspicious of network driver, and win 10 updates.

Me also, witnessing oddity with the machine of OS 8.1 and 10...It seems to be putting in the trouble, as MS wants to send, and other things want to update...ping the network connection...open the door...on or off...something is a mess with this processing service, that allows MS Windows to do the spooling, collecting, and sending of info....hidden behind the muse of updates, or auto updates....and the AI profiling of...or watchers...or some form of intel collection for bent ones...?...or they seek the coming one....Either way..he is not coming in the flesh!
 
As things made in China and Japan...Not pointing fingers but...U.S.A did sell spying eyes in some things to high up officials in the Empire.....Planes of private diplomatic relationships....Might gain in returns...""Do onto to Others, as you would have done onto YOU"...might be in play in the chipsets or nics or bios, or eprom hidden codex?...on or off is up to..choice of devices put into the box ....Perhaps a back door processing dependent on who or what is behind it?...NSA?..CIA?...KGB?...WTF?.
 
And the xbox thingy is just out of bounds in my book, that no longer can be terminated, or uninstalled, being pushed upon all as a Game, or gaming platform?.....

I'll just add my update to my crash issues. Basically I think I'm in the clear now. 

 
Last week I had to force a Windows update as mine was stuck at 1703. So got that sorted so now I'm 1709  and then I updated Sonar as well. For the first time in the last 2 updates I didn't get the overloud.dll error! yeah! 
 
In Windows nothing got changed this time and other than the usual re authorizing of AD2 all my settings seemed to stay put. It was the 1703 original Creators update that made a mess of things and possibly there were bug fixes in 1709 that are at play now.  
Anyhow logged a lot of hours without a hick up and I even had the internet adaptor enabled for a few days. I shut it off for again and will stay put sans updates for a few months now. 
 
So from my point of veiw it was 1703 that was a bomb. 
 so you all might want to give it a try if your still on 1703. 
To check your version go to SETTINGS/ SYSTEM/ABOUT ( found at bottom of list so is off screen unless you scroll down)  
 

hmmm....so what if one has been updating since Sonar became Platinum?...would it be wise to wipe out and install the latest thingy?...
 
And if things are coming to be more hidden into, and sort of resolved now....if so is so...And I do not think it is over yet.
 
Would not also the OS be contained into a compiled new ISO as fixed better than....and given to those whom want to start with (not over written error and or links to dead reg over written too much)...but a clean version with no err in or of....Would that be prudent for the users who paid for these OSes badly imposed?...and were brought upon into this mayhem by...pushed some were also to take this update plan of MS, to fix issue, to a not so working proper base codex with.
 
I think a big move should be taken to hold off ,here ,to do what is right for the whole base of this mess.
 
As many were lead into a nightmare of circles....and endless troubles....might still be pending with, if just updates and updating same base code....We hope the error code is not just Penned over, or tagged to not run...but removed completely and refreshed with proper iso....For anything new writing over, or rewriting might not remove all tagged to ignor x code, and use new code, but if no old code is tagged, because it is removed.....Should it also remove the err?...and give that new base ISO to begin Newly installed as base code and properly founded as new built ISO properly made, for the other coders to know is sound when installed firstly as the base....Libraries also righted for coding or use there of addressed...and such put forth for those who suffered this mayhem?....
 
 
What is the right move now?...if so is fixed...And I do not believe it is totally fixed yet.....So, be mindful of the wolves in the hen house....is a wise one to say...wait another day or days of so.

You know after reading all of these posts you would think someone would figure a way to write a program for us audio engineers that could scan our systems and based on the DAW we use make recommendations based on our hardware and driver versions to take out all the time we waste trying to tweak it in. Maybe even make some changes like uninstalling problematic drivers with our consent.
