I've got a reply from tech. support a few days ago with some test instructions. 

I shall test it out in a few days time. I'm suppose to press 'shift' while opening the project to find the offending vst.

From my early tests, I've made 2 sub-project out of it. One with some Pro Channel effects turned on, and the other without. I seems to be able to open the one without PC effect a few times without crashing. 

Opening the one with PC ..crashed X2, but I can't see which VST yet.. later.

That test is the standard procedure to id the plugin that is acting up. Edit: I wanted to add that they still have not contacted me.
