• SONAR
  • Rude behaviour in PRV - or User Error?

Hi all,
a very basic question:

Win7 - x64, Sonar X2 Producer...

I activate snap in PRV (at least I try to), but I can't see any snapping
taking place when I click on the timeline. I set snap to e.g. 'Whole', meaning a
full bar, but I can move the 'Now' time to anywhere I want it by clicking on the timeline.

I want it to snap to full bars, but it's just not not happening.

I need schoolin', I'm not foolin'.

I think 'stumped' is the word....

Do you have the global snap turned on? That needs to be on in order for the independent PRV snap to work.

Or maybe you have your Snap Intensity see too Light? Check that in the Preferences dialog under Customization - Snap To Grid.

AFAIK, the PRV's snap setting works only for moving/ resizing notes.

But you can press Ctrl + Page Up/Down to move the Now time to the prev/next measure. I just learned that from FastBikerBoy's video tutorial.

Scott's right, as per usual. Just tried it successfully.

Looking foward to X2 Power, Scott.

Well, I admit I don't know where to turn 'Global Snap' on/off, but I've tried
the N shortcut, the Shift + N shortcut, and it didn't make any difference.

I can still place the Now time anywhere in the timeline.

So, if I copy a full bar, and I want to paste it into a new bar, I want it to land exactly
at  the beginning of that bar, but there's no way to put the the Now time to the EXACT
right position.

So the pasted copy starts from a random position.....

I know I'm overlooking something here,
hope someone can come up with the magic word...

Oh,
by the way, intensity set to EXTREME.

Thanks, Zenas! I'm hard at work on the book.

Hi again,
I restarted Sonar, went to PRV in the same track, and suddenly there
was no problem any longer! No settings changed!

So if you experience something like this, try a restart!
Which , of cource, is not a satisfactory solution, but I probably
can't reproduce the steps leading up to this beahaviour.

Thanks to all!

Okay, instead of fooling with the PRV snap settings for now, just turn them off.

When you do that, the PRV will following the global snap settings. You can set the global snap via the Snap Module in the Control Bar. Be sure to read the SONAR quick start guide that you should have received with the software. It will give you the basics of where to find things in the SONAR inteface.

I know this doesn't help with snap but an alternative for exact placement of copied notes in PRV can be done by hitting ctrl+alt+V which brings up the paste dialog window.
