@soundtweaker

I attempted to install Win8 on a Bootable USB Flashdrive. I was not successful to install it on a removable drive and then boot to that drive. Can you give links or information about how to do this?

I boot my work laptop to Linux this way, but I have not been successful at doing this with Windows.

I have found the 'Improved Power Settings' kinda a pain personally. It's strange to not know how to force a full shutdown. Either doing it using the shutdown command or calling restart do the trick, but it's a bit odd.
BTW, the ability to make an iso on a bootable flash drive I don't care about at all. You can just mount the iso. I don't care about that a jot. If I could install windows and x2 on a portable drive and plug it in to any computer I want and boot to it, that would be a whole different story.

Just do a search for Windows To Go.

Hi there,ALL knowing ones,
I have absolutely NO intention of moving/$pending more money,to move to W8[Windows 7 on 2 machines,1x H.Premium x64,1xProfessional x64],after the last few months of internet "impulse" buying of Waves plugins, even though I apparently got $2,200 of plugs/bundles,for a total of $660,by using the $200 "voucher" offer's,and other "1 off" deals, all through the Waves online store.

Of course,I also upgraded to X2[an absolute bargain at $99]and bought yet another Audio Interface-a cheap[for here]$279,inc. shipping-N.I. Komplete Audio 6 USB 2.0,which I have to say,is performing excellently, especially for the price, and can track with THD/Amplitube/Guitar Rig,plus other plugs,in "real time" NO problem[without resorting to "direct monitoring, which was impossible with my UA-25EX USB 1.1,on my laptop].

Anyway, before going even more wildly"off topic",I'm asuming I can continue with Windows 7 for the forseeable future?[W7 is my FIRST EVER foray into computing, albeit a couple months on a P3/XP machine, before entering DAW/SONAR land at my join date]

So although it's 18 months with X1 Studio,X1d Producer Exp.,and now X2 PE.,I'm still,pretty much a newby to computing in general,and don't need/want,to move to Windows 8,and as with those who are still clinging to "XP",I'm [desperately]hoping,I won't be forced to change,for quite a while,is "this"going to be possible??

You can get Microsoft's End of Support information from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/lifecycle

It looks like Mainstream support for Windows 7 ends Jan 1 2015. So you have a couple more years of bug and security fixes from MS.

While I like Windows 8 and am happy I upgraded, it seems to me if your Windows 7 install is working, your money was better spent on all the things you purchased :-)

Nobody knows, any answer you get will be a guess. My guess is windows 7 will be supported by DAW and plugin manufactures for some time yet (2-3 years), but who knows how long?

For example XP support went on for ever, with many manufactures dropping XP at the same at time they dropped Vista.

Remember if you don't upgrade your software it should carry on working on your current OS indefinitely. I am in a situation now where some of my latest updates work on, but are not supported on my Vista O/S. I am certainly reluctant to upgrade to Windows 7 now its been replaced and still hoping to replace my DAW with a new Windows 8 machine some time next year.

I could update my current DAW to Win 8 for about 28 UK pounds which is a very good deal, but I really don't want to go down the route of reinstalling, relicensing and reconfiguring everything at the moment and then having to do it again when I get a new DAW.

Thank you,I was hoping a 2/3 year grace,as a better guess, than "no idea at all",anyone who digs "YesSongs" has to have some idea, the Steve Howe slide/pedal steel[?] parts at the end of "And you and I",will haunt me forever[in a good way!].
Cheers
Bob

Edit: Thank you too maximumpower, for the link, and the relief, that although I;m skint,I spent it alright!

> Yea if you dont want better performance Windows 8 is not for you.

I don't see any noticable performance benefits. I would adjust it thus...

If you dont need better performance Windows 8 is not for you. With Windows 8 you might see a performance benefit depending on how slow your PC is. And if you don't have the right tried and tested device drivers for Win8 just don't bother for now.... and if you've running Vista or earlier you  probably have no choice but to upgrade to Win8 if you want to run X2.

Dr. Mac
Probably too late to mention this, but Office Max was selling the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39 ($69 minus a $30 max perks rewards... essentially 30 duckets you can spend on anything you want).

cheers,
Ian
