touch control on a large monitor  is as useful to me as 13:9 aspect ratio monitors..  that is, no use at all.

iPad does the job. Like Bristol, I can thnk of nothing worse than having to stretch over the keyboard to move faders on a screen. Touchscreen on a daw is a bit daft tbh. iPad and third party software fine. But still not really worth the effort. However, you can do synths, daws , fx with an iPad and its wireless, so still wins vs windows 8 and a touchscreen monitor. Monitors generally have to be plugged into the mains. Which is where I think windows 8 will fail. Laptop fair enough, but cost vs iPad and a desktop is still more expensive.

No way in heck I'd want to reach out and touch my screen for every adjustment. I'm in enough pain as it is. The ONLY thing that Win8 offers me is the extra power but that will be rendered moot if it ends up that my hardware drivers get screwed up or if support ends early because MS has moved onto another OS version. Win 7 Pro and Home will be supported by MS until 2018 (Ultimate until 2015... which I'm glad I found out before buying it) and all my current hardware works with it and I'm sure any future hardware I purchase will work with Win7.

I am not adventurous.

I am not a maverick.

I just want my crap to work.

Peace.

Sorry - In my opinion a touch screen can never replace a mixing table with motorized faders. I want to touch and feel the knobs "in the blind" without keeping a constant look on what the hell I am moving. Call me old-fashioned, but I just want to work comfortable (and sometimes closing my eyes to concentrate on what is happening in "music space"). And that means just reaching out and feel what I am doing.

For me the best thing would be for Cakewalk to release a Metro/Android/Apple "app" that can remotely handle Sonar, just handling the transport, record arming, and ability to do a volume level mix on the fly for headphones.  Just really simple and cutdown. That would be a good use of tablets. Great for people wanting to remote control their recording when there isn't somebody else at the "desk".

That I agree with whole heartedly, Alex. In fact if there was a way to control Sonar on  my Win7 DAW easily and effectively with a Win8 tablet I'd certainly consider it.

You can do it on the Apple app Store no probs. Why wait for cakewalk to release it? It's all there and works well. A bit of configuration but if that's what you want, the cost is loose change really. Wifi and wifi card on pc essential. I rarely use it and haven't bothered setting it up on new pc and x2. , but ac7 pro worked fine on previous versions .

Still no where near an apro hardware midi controller and x2 for total integration and control.

Well I've done it with my netbook - you can use remote desktop - works very well... you would need a tablet with full Windows 8 (or Win 7) to do the same (not one of those surface thingies that just runs metro).. Remote desktop gives you remote access to the whole screen (i.e. whole of Sonar) which is a little over the top, but it works well.

An app would be far easier to handle.

Cheers. That will be something that requires far more research on my part. There isn't any money for it at this point anyway but I am indeed curious so I can unglue myself from the big rig while tracking.

Until you get tired of holding your arms up. Which for me is about 10 seconds.

Touch screens are for point of sale terminals.
Pads maybe ok but you cant lean on them like you can a console

Just my opinion.
