Octa-Capture user here. I love using it and the pre-amps are great. It can be used for both digital and analog connections. It would be nice if it came with software like the Saffire Pro but maybe in the near future. It connects to Windows 7 much better than the Presonus Firepod did. Peace

If lowest possible round-trip latency is important to you:

RME USB units yield 4.9ms at a 48-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k
OctoCapture yields 7.4ms at a 48-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k
Presonus 1818 VSL yields 4.9ms at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size
MOTU hybrid units are ~5.5ms at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size

The above at the best performers when it comes to lowest possible round-trip latency in a USB unit.

 
What I get is a totally mediocre / practically unusable latency i.e. I have to increase the ASIO buffer so much (up to 1024 as 512 still pops and cracks) that the latency is beyond anything you could use for tracking real instruments.
 
This really puzzles me as the Octa-Capture did work nicely when paired with the VS-100 in my mobile rig, but with VS-700 it does not (same PC, only longer COAX cable and different USB 2.0 hub ... but I tried to swap the later 2 without success).
 
Is my PC so under-spec'd for VS-700 + OctaCapture (manual say Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Quad or better) or is there something else that's wrong ...???

Any idea what could be the reason why I cannot get anywhere near those latency figures when I link the Octa-Capture with the VS-700?? Each unit by itself works fine (@ 96 sample buffer size), but linking both for additional I/O just doesn't ...
 

 

I just realized that there is a new Octa-Capture firmware (v.1.51) out since June 2012 (http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=UA-1010&id=62226814) 

Documentation only lists one bug fix regarding MIDI so I don't expect it to solve my problems ... but as I'm running short of ideas on what to try to get it fixed, I might as well give this update a try ...

Firmware v1.5.1 does not change anything
 
I even have to revise my previous posts: Octa-Capture no longer seems to work right with the VS-100, either (same latency issues as with VS-700) ... which in way is comforting as the problem is not necessarily on the VS-700 side (which gets an incredible lot of support lately  )
 
Anyway, I'm sure it did work OK when I bought the Octa-Capture last fall ... I reckon something is not quite working right with the v.1.5 drivers (although Roland promised lower latency) because all the posts of the 2 interfaces working together successfully date back a long time, either ... no happy posts lately ...
 
 

 

Surprise, surprise!

The latest OctaCapture driver update seems to have addressed this problem. It's just a shame that there are no release news with drivers telling you what to expect (v.1.5.1 was released as win 8 driver).
 
Anyway, I just installed v.1.5.1 (http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=UA-1010&id=62226714) and now it works with VS-700 (v.2.0.1) at the same ASIO buffer settings (128 samples). Previously I could not go below 512 when VS EXPAND was active! Yeah, baby, that rocks!
