  • missing first note of performance on export of vsti

I'm creating a short loop in X2, containing only 3 tracks, each of which contains a VSTI (Kontakt 5 and 2x Reaktor 5), and a MIDI pattern.  When I export audio everything works fine except one of the tracks skips the first midi note (which happens exactly at time 0:00) in the resulting audio file.  How can I convince my export to include that very first note?

Thanks,

Walt

I'll just be the first in a long line of people who will tell you that starting any project at 00:00:00 is asking for trouble. In the world of midi a whole lot of stuff may be loaded before it even looks for the first note.  Save yourself some headaches and start your projects at the 2nd measure.

You can also try upping your midi buffer setting to 500msecs.  Might help.

Rob

Thanks for your reply Rob.  I probably should have mentioned in my OP that I had already set my midi playback buffer to 500ms, and the project doesn't use "measure 1" in Sonar.  I dragged everything to measure 2.  That being said, I selected my midi clips when exporting audio, so 0:00 of the exported audio is actually measure 2 in my sonar project.  I'm creating a loop, so I want the beginning to be exactly 16 measures after the previous loop.

Any other thoughts?

I should also probably add that I am aware that I can always export the 1st measure (which is empty), and then trim it out of the resulting audio file.  However, I was hoping to find a solution to do it in the export step.  After all, the first note is definitely part of what I've selected for export, so I figure there must be a way to get it to export with everything else.

Thanks,

Why not.......

Export MORE than the length of the clip you want, so as to incorporate the missing note.
Then bring it back into Sonar and slip edit it to make your loop an exact number of measures

As said above, you WILL get issues by starting a project at measure 01:01:000

Depending on how you've got this set up, why not freeze or bounce instead of export?

Have you checked the note properties or event list to make sure that note doesn't start a few ticks early?

It can't start earlier than 01:01:000

Hey Jonesey.   The OP did state this:

...and the project doesn't use "measure 1" in Sonar. I dragged everything to measure 2.

Thanks for the tip Steve.  I just took a look at the event list to double-check and the note that's missing from the audio is (correctly) at MBT 2:01:000.  My export selection is from 2:01:000 to 18:01:000.  So, theoretically, my missing note should be rendered in the audio, but it's not.

Oddly, there are 4 other midi notes at the same timestamp (MBT 2:01:000) in another track (the drums) and they all seem to be triggering just fine in the export.

The workaround is working fine, so this isn't a show-stopper.  I am able to post-edit the waveform and make the loop work perfectly.  I was just hoping to find a way to have Sonar export what it's supposed to in one step without having to resort to exporting more than I need and then post-editing.

Any other ideas?

In preferences/project/midi uncheck zero controllers and patch/controller searchback.
multiple instances of reaktor will do that.  freeze each soft synth individually and then export the file. better yet, freeze the synth, name the frozen clips and then drag them into your media browser to store them.
