I've never used my OD account.  I use dropbox for access to pdf files from my tablet.  For collabs I use box.  I think it has 10G.

I forgot about OD after I installed W10, never used it. Used Box for years, back ups and collabs, DropBox more recently (with Bapu)

Luckily...or not...I don't have a clue what OneDrive is. Although I got the email too.

I went the $59 / year route for unlimited storage with Amazon.  They make LOTS of money other ways so I'm hoping they don't need to start limiting it.

That seems like a decent enough price.  Now if I get more 3/4Mbit uplink ....

Someone I collab with uses OneDrive. I retrieve MANY large files from them and I've had tons of problems downloading from OD. I can pretty much count on multiple download failures for every batch of files they send. I have to make a list of/keep track of/babysit all the individual files before, during and after the downloads to make sure I've gotten everything instead of just starting the downloads and walking away like I can with Dropbox.

Eventually I get them all but sometimes I have to restart individual downloads half a dozen times or more. Like widdling away at them until I finally get everything. Real PITA time waster.

Of course Microsoft would affiliate themselves with something so annoying.

Dropbox has been rock solid for me and I use the free version. The only weird thing that happens is sometimes the file links I receive try to open in their "Preview/Player" thingie but I think that's more about how they are uploaded than anything else.

Anyway... I should probably let some people know about this so they don't lose files. This is reminiscent of the Gobbler fiasco (which thankfully I didn't bite on).

It's a pity, but as mentioned they are a business and needs to survive.

They in this case is Microsoft.

Struggling to keep afloat with $90,000,000.00 in cash reserves.

Revenue numbers alone are meaningless ... what is their net?

Like every other company I guess they have to make sure each aspect of the business is bringing home a certain amount of becan otherwise it's deemed to be a waste of their resources - in this case I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of their business plan all along, offer a freebie, build a dependence on it and then threaten to take it away unless you pay for it. A bit like a crack dealer really, lol.....they'll probably pull in a lot of revenue from people who have been relying on that 15GB and figure that they might as well cough up the readies.

I mean it's $2/month for 50GB, which is quite reasonable. A lot of people will figure it's worth it.

Cash reserve is not a revenue number. It is the actual value of cash they have on hand to spend on any damn thing they want. Your annual income is a revenue number, and is probably what you pay taxes on. Your cash reserve is how much money you have in the bank. http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/11/technology/overseas-cash-tech/
Their revenue is definitely down compared to their salad days, but they are certainly not in a position that they need to cut cloud storage to survive or prosper.

My bad. I stopped reading at re... I'm so used to people quoting revenue when they complain how little taxes get paid.  Speaking of which, if they paid taxes on their revenues they're dumber than dirt ;)

$90M isn't all that much for such a giant and why should they spend their reserves to provide stuff at a loss?

IMO the whole freebie cloud storage thing is just a way to get the masses used to the whole cloud and SaaS concept anyway.
