  • How do I pan multiple guitars via a bus?

Hi... can't figure out how to make this work...

I have three guitars. I want to spread them out in the stereo field with panning. I can pan individual tracks just fine and place them where I want. Then, I'm routing them (not with sends, but the "out" for each track) to a guitar buss with some shared fx to conserve CPU, and I'll also use the bus as a sub-mix for the guitars as well.

Problem: I lose the individual panning of the tracks when I route them to the guitar bus. The default on the bus is center-panned, so all the guitars are summed to the center. I can pan L/R with the bus, but it pans all three of them. What am I missing? How do I keep my individual track panning of instruments when running them through a shared bus?

Thanks for any advice....
Billy

The panning position should be maintained. Perhaps you inserted a mono bus instead of a stereo bus?

Is this a pre-fader/post-fader thing on the send? Like if you have the send set to pre-fader, does that mean the send is also pre-panner?

I'll bet at one of these shared fx is mono. If all three signals are passing through this fx, then the resulting output from the bus will be mono. Use only stereo effects in a stereo bus.

Hi. My guess was also going to be a mono plugin on the guitar bus.
That would cause exactly that problem.
All the best.

You guys were right. I had a mono version of a plugin on the guitar bus. Working now. Thanks!
