Now why should I put off what is clearly a positive improvement over my current Vista?

Anything is an improvement over Vista.

... MS is not releasing a stand-alone upgrade advisor. The advisor is available when performing the upgrade!!!   Way annoying.

ther hardware issues:  the vista period??
Actually I just downloaded the upgrade advisor without purchasing from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
Will be running it in the next few minutes to see if I can upgrade this machine.

Well, the Upgrade Assistant basically gave me an OK for this machine. I was concerned about my M-Audio Oxygen 8 keyboard, but it says that's compatible. The weird thing is that it said my E-MU 0202 USB is also compatible. I thought for sure that would be a no-go. In fact I came across a good price on a Quad Capture a couple of days ago and picked it up to make sure I could move on to Win8 when the time comes. But it makes me wonder how thorough that compatibility check really is.

The Upgrade Assistant runs on your machine and checks the apps and devices you have installed and plugged in. So you would have to download it yourself and run it. You might as well try it ... the process doesn't really take that long. At the end, it asks if you want to purchase and you can just cancel.

I see this is not listed on the Roland site of updated drivers (http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=62483214). I don't know if this means they're still working on it, or if it's not going to happen.

Way cool.  Searched a bunch this past week and all the major pundits were forlorned about the non-stand-alone advisor.

I am happier now.

I just bought the Windows 8 Pro download last night. I installed it and after getting over the shock of the different screens, I started Sonar X2 with my Focusrite Saffire pro 24 DSP. I had no problems what so ever. Now I'm wondering what the compatability upgrade is supposed to do? (When it comes out by Focusrite)

I held my breath and took the plunge this afternoon. After the installation I fired everything up and worked on a couple of different projects for about 4 hours. No crashes, no weird stuff at all (knock on wood). If everything goes this smoothly I'll be a happy camper.
But yeah, graphics-wise Windows 8 is really gonna take some getting used to....

LOL The way it looks is growing on me.

One big question how to you kill an app? Also I went to the app store to get Google's app. I could not find a way to search for it. Found a way to exit apps.

What about the UM-3G? Not working yet. Your web page on this is EXTREMELY vague.
