I recently got the Audio-Technica ATHM50S.  They were free using reward points on my Amazon card, which was awesome.

These sound great and are very accurate.  I never make a final decision on bass and kick level without checking the mix in these phones.

They have good isolation so they are good for tracking (although I hand other people cheaper headsets to use when they record so they don't mess up my good ones).

+1 for Sennheiser HD 650.

A good alternative would be IMHO Beyerdynamic DT880pro

Make sure to have a good headphone amp too..

Cheers!

The only thing I don't like about them is that they tend to make your ears a bit sweaty after prolonged use, but I guess that's the same with any snug fitting cans with good isolation. I'm keeping on top of it by wiping them regularly though, because my last pair of gym headphones stank to high heaven after a few weeks of sweating and not wiping them well enough. And once those pads pick up a sweat smell it is very hard to get rid of. I thought I had BO until I realized the intermittent whiffs I was getting in the gym were from my cans!

I love my ATH-M50s.  I'm on a stringent budget but always have a pair of these.

ATH-M50's are a fine pair of headphones and not too expensive either.
+1 to these.
I got the 50th anniversary addition (I like the color )
And they're still on sale at Musicians Friend too. (Not sure about the cool 50th addition tho )

I'd recommend the Beyer Dynamic 770's.

Very nice. So nice in fact, this thread is making me seriously consider upgrading  to the M50s for the extended lower frequency range ( 15 - 28,000 Hz)

I've been using AKG K240s since the 4-track cassette days (on my 3rd pair).
I like them a lot, but when these die, I'll probably try out the ATH-M50s.

If you want a good cheap pair (around £30) go for the Roland RH-5, just recently got a pair myself, really nice, flat response with 10–22,000Hz frequency response.
