Works for me, I tried to get a screenshot, but the image doesn't show the cursor for some reason.

Are we referring to the same thing? The OP doesn't mean the crop/fade tool at the end of the clip. He is referring to the tool that appears between two takes in the take lanes and cross fades between the two.

Hey, that's the one! It doesn't work for me!! Gonna try a couple things...

And for the record, this is X2 32 bit on XP (still at work)

Hey, I actually managed to find it once! Grabbed hold and moved the edges back and forth a bit, but after letting go I can't find it anymore. I don't believe this is the intended behaviour.

I wonder if it's a 32 bit vs 64 bit problem. I am running in 64 bit.

I found something! 

I can consistently get the tool to show up if neither of the clips have fade ins/outs on them. Cropping the overlap (with auto-crossfade on) imposes fades on the clips, so I have to get rid of those in order to re-grab the junction. 

Not practical!

Is it a feature or bug. I would rather have the tool override the fades.

I did a little more testing..... 
I can only get it to work, partially, when a V-Vocal clip is one of the clips, and only on the left edge of the clip.
I can hover over the right edge, get the smart tool to change (like in the video), but when i click and drag... the tool becomes the move tool....
