I wonder if it has somthing to do with previous versions of Sonar already installed ...I hate to do a complete clean and reinstall and find the same problem and loose all those old plugins that aren't included with Sonar anymore .... I tried to delete the extra AUD ini folders too.

It's definitely an issue.  Has crashed for me on 3 separate pc's and 2 different operating systems through the years. You can't leave v-vocal live on a clip - you've got to get out and bounce it right away.  I almost never have a problem if I do that.  The last time it crashed was about a month ago - it started crashing every time I opened it.  After a re-boot the problem went away.  It is a temperamental plug-in and when it starts acting up it is very difficult to figure out why.

Some people I guess never have a problem, but I've seen complaints about it over the years to realize it is not just me or my pc setup.

yeah...its got so much potential...but seems to be put together pretty horribly.  i can only think that cakewalk is not fixing it becauae they plan to move on to Melodyne intergration, like Studi One (brilliantly done btw, i use it frequently)

Several years of using VVocal from Sonar 8.5 to X2 and it still crashes repeatedly.  Two different computer set ups, same issues.  Even bouncing down immediately after fixing a clip is not reliable, because it will simply crash when you insert it.

Sometimes I have had luck importing the problem vocal files into a blank project and fixing them there.  Not ideal, but you know, desperate times, desperate measures..

I used to be a fan of VV, but the crashes at certain times were just too much. I paid a couple of hundred for Melodyne and have never looked back. It has its own set of quirks, but crashes are a thing of the past when working vocal correction. And by the way, Melodyne is 1000 times better software.

That would be great.  I still use VV even with intermitent crashes because 1) I don't use vocal correction that much, and 2) I love the way it is integrated into Sonar - just a Shift+V and it opens.  I'm not sure how melodyne works, but if I had to insert it as an effect to each track that is needed, it would be too much of a hassle.  Is that the way it works?

My theory on why they don't fix it is that this I beleive it was written by Roland with different developers, probably in a different country and with possibly different programming language.  It is very complex programming and Cake probably says "We aren't going to touch that code".  Roland may not even give Cakewalk access to the code.  I may be totally wrong though....

Your theory sounds right to me .... It is an old piece of software. The Developers will be long gone, its probably written in an outdated version of some programming language - So I cant see them putting out a new release.........Although wouldn't it be nice if I was wrong

Absolutely correct - it's not Cakewalk's code, it's based on Roland's Variphrase technology.  And even though Cakewalk is technically Roland, I would think there are years and years worth of code that neither would be able to modify from the other.

If I were you, I'd run a check of all that memory and also a full virus and disk scan. I think a lot of the problems people are having are due to computer errors and not software errors. I was having crashes and a FULL scan of MS Security Essentials found a trojan horse on my system that the Quick Scan didn't find. Since then, it been running clean.
