It looks like MA is shut down for tommorow. Schools and non-essential goverment workers are off.

Three storms in one! Uggg! I hope we don't get snow. That's worse here since all the leaves are still on the trees.

And yeah... the media has cried wolf so many times just for ratings you never know when these things are the real deal anymore. I'd imagine the emergency broadcast systems would kick in if crap was gonna get real crazy.

Best of luck, all.

One thing I've noticed about this storm as opposed to last year's Hurricane Irene, is that even though New Yorkers are doing their usual panic buying (I witnessed some ridiculous scenes this afternoon), they're not taping their windows up like last year. For Irene, virtually everyone had blue tape crosses in their windows. This year, I haven't seen one single taped up window.

Just checked - the towers were we lived were just outside the evacuated zone.

Crossing fingers for the people there will be as safe as we were last year.

This is just the beginning, folks... rapid, radical climate change is upon us and we don't even mention it... with utter stupidity sooooo rampant, our prognosis is not good...

That's because people have figured out that taping your windows is a bad idea for several reasons.

1. It's a pain to get off when you take it off.
2. It looks stupid.
3. It's a complete waste of money and time.

Taping your windows does nothing to stop windows from breaking.

Nassau Count Long Island here. From the NOAA data, doesn't look bad around my neck of the woods. But good thing we decided to remove a Ceder pine from next to the house. It was leaning even before Irene. After, it leaned a bit more. I'm not the type to like chopping down a perfectly good tree, but when its a tree or me, too bad for the tree. :) Now if only my neighbor thought the same. Hes got a beach tree growing right into the power and phone lines..... If that goes, the whole block's power and telephone is going down with it. :/

We had remnants of one come through Maryland back in 2003, and I still remember winds sustained of over 50 mph, with gusts up to around 70.

I went outside with my son, because it was such a surreal event, and he was about 8 years old at the time.  I had to hold his hand because the wind would literally lift his body off the ground - it was SOOOOO cool.

The next day, I drove down into DC for a basketball tournament, and saw a BUNCH of really huge trees knocked over by the wind and saturated ground.  That was quite sad.

I was married twice, so I know what having no power for long periods of time feels like.  Good luck everybody - hope everyone's gear stays dry, and nobody loses anyone in the process.

East Ohio here.  We're expecting 4" to 5" of rain and winds 35 to 70 mph and the obligatory power outage.  Last time we had something like this was when hurricane Ivan, then a week later, Francis, stopped over our area and caused a catastophe as it wrung out it's water over us.  We spent the rest of the year repairing roads and infrastructure.  Got four 5-gallon cans of gasoline and the generator on standby...probably get water in the basement as well with a storm this big...

It's not supposed to stop them from breaking Robert...it stops the shattering glass from flying all over.
