  • Rbowser tutorials for X2 ?

I have used Sonar for recording and mixing for a while (basic level), but have just started to learn sequencing and working with midi that I have imported from Sibelius - as a point of departure (I like to do the arrangement in notes first). I have recently installed Garritan GPO4, JABB, Instant Orch., and the Marching Band. I found the Rbowser tutorials in Youtube for using Garritan in Sonar, but see they are for 8.5. I'm sure there are lots of similarities, but I'm also finding lots of differences as well. Does anyone know of a tutorial by someone that is for X2, or at least X1 - that is detailed and thorough? It looks like Bower's is a good approach, but for me it's confusing enough without having to "translate" or convert to X2. Thanks!

Checkout the videos by Karl Rose (Streamworks Audio) a regular Cakewalk forum contributor . . .  he has some great videos pertaining to Sonar X-2.

You may write to Randy Bowser using his website's email form to ask him more questions about integrating Sibelius with SONAR.

He used to be a regular forum visitor and a highly valued contributor but he probably got busy as, in his other life, he is a prolific composer who is busy working on his musical productions:

I miss Randy's contributions here.

IIRC Randy did not get on with X1 and may have moved on to a different DAW. Or as McQ said he is just busy.

I will check his web site - if I can find it with just his name. I'm wondering if I'm concerned about the wrong thing...Would using Garritan sounds with Aria in Sonar probably be done essentially the same way as using any other sounds in one of the included soft synths in Sonar? Thanks

Yes, the Garritan synths themselves should be inserted and operate about the same as 8.5.  For example, you'll still want to un-check the "Zero Controllers" option so the modulation wheel doesn't cause the volume to drop out.  That's in Preferences > Project now instead of Options like 8.5

IMO what's changed more starting with X1 is the PRV itself, and I don't think Randy ever got along well with these changes.  I personally feel that the PRV changes in X2 are an improvement, but as always YMMV.
