Hi Lads
I use SD3 but Im  not really impressed with any of the snare sounds.   Check out on YouTube a song by Bad Company called How About That.   I love that deep big snare sound the guy has.    Anyone know of a good snare plug in that gives that deep strong rock sound on the snare?   Would EZ Drummer be a better software to use?
Thanks guys.

Can you not use SD3's tools to shape the snare sound the way you want it? I like a deep snare sound myself.

SD3 is pretty much just a trigger pad, you can load whatever samples you have or find onto any of the spots in SD3.  I use SD3 whenever I need drums, which is always, and I can't honestly say I've ever used any samples that came with it

SD3 (assuming you mean Session Drummer 3 and not Superior Drummer 3 by Toontrack) to EZDrummer2 is like comparing a Volkswagen to a Porche.

Yes EZDrummer2 will be better software to use than SD3 in my opinion.

If you really want your socks knocked off, check out Superior Drummer 3.

You can also hear it in THIS SONG. That is the stock Ludwig Black Beauty snare.

Session drummer 3 you can load your own samples . Something both Superior Drummer and EZ2 can not do.

Which version of Sonar do you have? If you have Professional or Platinum you'll have Addictive Drums 2 ( AD2)
If you haven't already done so, register and then go to the web site and audition the drum kits. I'm sure you'll find the snare you want.
With Sonar Pro you get 1 add pak with Splat you get 2.
I have Session Drummer 2 and 3 Addictive Drums 2 and Strike 2 ( Air ) and use them all. But I use AD2 for the majority of songs.

AD2 has a much more in depth interface and is a step up in sound quality from SD. Just being able to add reverb and EQ  compression and on and on.  Strike 2 is real good too but I've yet to understand how to change kit pieces and customize, If I find a kit I like I'm fine, but I always like to fine tune my kits.  AD 2 is super easy to configure compared to Strike. And Session drummer sound flat and lifeless unless you find better samples and add effects to the audio output.

I do use SD if I want to play one of my own sampled drum parts. I sampled my real drum kit and I sampled my Snare about 30 different ways and using different mikes etc. So it's pretty cool for that. AD2 you are forced to buy there kits. I'm not sure about Strike2 playing my samples and need to spend more time with it.

True. If that is what one is into, it's a great point.

Actually, Superior Drummer 3 now can load user samples, although it seems a bit superfluous given that it ships with a 40GB (230GB total with all the additional ambient/surround/bleed samples!) core library of killer drum sounds.

Also, not sure what version of Sonar the OP has, but Platinum includes Addictive Drums 2 and two AdPacks. Some pretty good sounding drums in there, too. EDIT: Ah, just noticed Cactus Music's post. What he said.

There are places where you can buy individual snare samples. My favorite drum sample shop is Drumwerks, which offers a large selection of individual kit pieces. Here's their snares page. They're typically 5 bucks apiece, plus they have bundles of snares such as the Pearl Power Pack with 50 snares - gotta imagine one of those will be what you're looking for.

Drumdrops is another vendor to check out. Analog Drums sells kits, but they're cheap and you can pull any of the drums out for individual application.

As noted previously, there are many options for beefing up the snares you already have. Truth is, real-life snare drums never sound as good as they do on records. That's all engineering magic.

I will agree with you though, superior and EZ are miles apart of session drummer 3 in sounds and features.
