Hi People

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a way of changing the pitch an audio (mp3) song without changing tempo and hopefully little or no artefacts.

Would sonar be best for this or is there perhaps something like, "amazing slowdowner" that can do this really easily.
I have a load of old songs I have to learn but due to varying tape speeds none of them are in concert pitch so I keep having to retune my guitar witch is pain.

Cheers

There is something called SongSurgeon5.  It can slow the pitch without changing tempo.  And you can change tempo without changing pitch.  you would have to try it to see what if any artifacts would be introduced.

Thanks Paulo, I didn't think Audacity would do that but will check it out.

bwbalint, I'm downloading Song Surgeon 5 right now but not sure it will let me do it in the demo version and $97 is way too much for something I may well only use once.

Cheers

I have a Karaoke player program (PCDJ) and it will change keys without changing tempo.  However its a paid program, not free.

I've seen some Karaoke player programs around for download but all that I checked into have malware/spyware attached and I don't recommend downloading one of those.

It's not free, but cheap, and sounds pretty decent, and a Black Friday sale might be coming:
Kilohearts Pitch Shifter:
https://kilohearts.com/products/pitch_shifter

It's $19.00 right now, but a bit cheaper (about $16) at JRR shop, and they have a free 30-day trial.
If you like it, I would suggest you use the free trial, then check to see what they have for prices on Black Friday.  I'm waiting to pick up a few others before I pick this up as well.

Yes, Audacity does this very well. I use it weekly as our church worship leader keeps changing keys and I like to play along at his desired key. At the top go to Effects Tab > Pitch and a window will pop up allowing you to adjust the pitch up or down a desired amount.

You may want to try the "Time/Pitch Stretch 2" DX plug-in in the SONAR Clip Menu Process Effect > Audio Effects
