Hi, I know this is a dumb question but I've spent a lot of time researching this issue (this forum, internet, Sonar X1 Power!)without success so here goes---Does anyone know of a simple way to convert a midi (synth) track to an audio track? I watched the new "Sonar X2 Mix Clinic" video and noticed the synth tracks were all recorded in stereo. When I used Dimension Pro 64 to record some strings, it recorded in mono (there was no way to record in stereo that I could find). Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks! Mike

How are the tracks set up?  Did you use a simple instrument track?  A separate audio and midi track?

The basic idea is that you want the input to the audio track (or the audio portion of the simple instrument track) to pick up the output from the Primary Output: Stereo from Dim Pro.

You should just have to change the audio routing assignment for the track to pick up stereo output from Dim Pro, and your midi playback will then sound in stereo.

I guess for a simple instrument track you would bounce it?

I never use those, so for me I would just change the input setting for the separate audio track to be the stereo output of DIm Pro.

In my other post, I thought that I had more access to audio input settings on a simple instrument track than there may be- sorry for any confusion.

That's because you recorded a MIDI track (I assume). MIDI tracks are not mono or stereo. If you select both the MIDI track and the Dimension Pro track (hold down CTRL and select the track numbers) and select Track-Bounce to Track, you will get a stereo audio track.

Rog857 please indicate precisely what tracks you have set up, and how you came to have them set up.

Thanks,

Hi Bob and Dave, I set up a Dim Pro Synth track to record strings. I got a good recording but it was mono. When I clicked on the input section there was no stereo available for my UA-25EX. So I set up another Dim Pro Synth track and selected "All Synth Audio Outputs Stereo" in the options box. Now it appears I can record in stereo. Trouble is, while I get two red lines in the track, nothing is being recorded. I'm going to keep messing around with this and will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice! Mike

Sounds like you're using Simple Instrument tracks... I wouldn't do that. Insert DimPro and have it create a MIDI track and the synth track.

Bob, Dave, I followed the instructions for converting a synth track to a stereo audio track. I bounced the Dim Pro track to an audio track. Two lines on the audio track resulted but nothing was recorded. Any idea why the recording wasn't bounced to the audio track? Thanks, Mike

This is guaranteed to work

  1. Insert Dim Pro
  2. Select "Midi Source" and "First Synth Audio Output" from the "Insert Soft Synth Options" dialog.
  3. Load a patch, record or input some data
  4. By far the easiest way to get rendered audio from this is to simply freeze the synth using the snowflake icon on the Midi channel in Track View
