I've just submitted a bug report about losing previously recorded MIDI data in a Take Lane, even with Sound-On-Sound Record enabled.

Very frustrating!

I'm not sure under what circumstances you lost data but if you record into a specific take lane it will overwrite any existing material regardless of recording settings, that's by design I believe.

If you don't want that just record to the track and let Sonar create a new lane.

6. Empty lanes with Solo button on look confusing.

Hi Panup,
Have you figured out how these get created? I've been seeing them a bunch and I haven't been able to figure out what the recipe is to re-create them (and thus report them as a bug)...

yo panup

To me, most of your listed items are bugs.  And then some are by-de-clutter-design. And a couple are ommissions.

Most of these will be fixed.

Even so, layers, with the bugs fixed, would still be easier to use, and more in keeping with the real purpose: lots of clips on one track using the same FX and routing.

My thoughts exactly!

This is definitely one of those "agree to disagree" moments...   While I do admit that layers are easier to grasp, actually working with them was never much fun for me.  Hence my "fiddly" comment early on... which was worse when dealing with clip envelopes, in layers, which was something I had done a fair bit.    Lanes make this so much easier IMHO.

However... I will also admit that I haven't done much heavy duty comp work in X2 either.   Though what I have done just "felt" better using lanes right from the get-go.    So here's to fixing the bugs and accessibility issues with lanes so that layers aren't missed quite so much.

No idea how they appear. First I though its' by design but it must be a bug that will hopefully be fixed very soon.

This doesn't explain why, in this scenario, audio clips are slip-edited, but midi clips are obliterated. Perhaps that inconsistancy is the actual bug.

I have mentioned this in other threads, take lanes use way too much real estate vs layers.  I wont be updating to X2 and I'm looking at other DAW packages.  I have been with cake since PA9, unless something drastic happens  I think I will be moving elsewhere.

+1.  I'm liking the lanes, I think with a couple of fixes and some small improvements they will be a big improvement over layers.  I have to admit that layers would be fine if they were not super buggy, but they never worked well for me.

For those that didn't use layers much, well of course it won't be missed.

But I used layers a LOT and I was fast at working with them.  There were issues that needed fixing, and perhaps these were enough to put some people off, but the workflow of layers is not replicated with lanes for audio work.  Not for me, and not by a long stretch.

I like lanes for automation, it was something I asked for, but I'm glad they kept the X1 way of working with envelopes for those that preferred the "old" way.  Layers should be there for those that prefer that way of working.

Hi Rod...

While I agree with you completely about these Lanes issues, I can't find any other game in town... As with it's recent (last number of years) trend, Cakewalk is becoming more like the others in many ways. It's uniqueness filtering out.... I'm not happy about it. I avoided PT so much due to the lanes issues..... and now I'm being forced back into them...

But the Bakers have always been very alert to their' special abilities and I'm hoping they will rise to the occasion for this as well and offer us the first solution tat embraces both lanes and layers!
