Have you ordered the boxed disc set or any other product from Cakewalk to delivery in UK, and did you have to pay VAT and/or import duty on arrival?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

I didn't buy it this year, but shouldn't have had to since cakewalk charge VAT their end. In the past they ship from the UK or Ireland  (from near where my mum was born) unless they changed that.

if customs got it , they might assume there was some duty needed paying on it.

things getting sorted ?

if they are wanting you to pay tax on it, show them the receipt should fix that? when I ship stuff on ebay, it's in the buyers hand if for some reason they wanna charge tax..

depends how it was declared also , as a gift / commercial product on the customs form.

I bought X2 box from cake and no i didn't have to pay any VAT or taxes....it looked like the box was shipped from the US though so perhaps i was lucky. Previously when i've bought boxed stuff from cake it has shipped out of Eire so no taxes due anyway.

@Fog and Twigman - That is what i thought, I never had this issue before and I have bought lots of cakewalk stuff over the years.
But now within a week I have had two shipments from boston, and both are being held for me to pay ekstra money, and all of a sudden I am being told from Cakewalk they do not take any VAT/Tax when we buy from them!?!
They tell me that there's no European Distribution either, I always thought that was one of the reasons we paid a bit extra for the products.

Any way thank you for the replies, I am beginning to think they don't like me;-)

EDIT: Got the answer from Ryan Munnis, they no longer ship physical items from Galway, so now we are subject to VAT and import duties when it arrives here.
So we are back to pay a lot more for the products, than the American Sonar users unless we download it. Bloody hard to download a keyboard.

Case closed.

just curious , how much do they want ? (haven't cakewalk already charged us tax on that automatically anyway ?!?!)

just shop at digital village or their UK distro et cetrea (or however it's spelt) .. which is what I will do next year.. as I'm overly tired of the marketing departments "antics" over the years (thats the polite version)

the recent one with the strings , being the final one... still, at least that way the UK economy gets a bit of the money in the process

@Fog - they charged me £15.91 which I did pay in the end, but I agree with you I am never buying any physical items from them again.
They do say on their shop that we might be liable for any VAT/Tax and/or any import duty, and they told me yesterday they do not charge VAT(which I thought they did as well).
Well Learned my lesson I guess.

UK Customs seems to have changed their processes recently.  I used to order lots of stuff from the US and never had to pay D&Ts, but having said that I should have done and it was really down to them not having their act together.  The only trouble is that their new procedures have introduced massive delays and incompetence (as per usual with the civil service...)  I recently bought an antique print from the US and the business owner sent it via 'US Mail 24 hour'.  It took over three weeks to get to me and was assessed at £78 including £12.50 ParcelFarce 'clearance fee' - US Mail stuff is handled by Royal Mail/ParcelFarce here.  Prints over 100 years old are zero Duty, as clearly marked on the Commercial Invoice on the outside of the package.  I complained of course and was told where to go to download a reclaim form if I disagreed with their work.  I did that and six weeks later received a smug self-serving three-page letter containing no apology but a statement that I would receive a £43 repayment order.  Three weeks later I received it.
When I was waiting for the delivery I phoned Customs and was simply told there were delays - again no apology or anything.  Phoning ParcelFarce was similar: "Yes, Customs  are way behind.  Not our fault.  Do you want their number?"

I believe there is now a default minimum of 5% Duty on all stuff - higher for others (there's a huge catalogue on line) and there'll be 20% VAT on that Duty figure.

TIP:  If you still want to order stuff from a non-EU country make sure the sender user a courier like Federal Express as they have their own Customs clearance interfaces with Customs ao you should still get your package on time as they'll probably ask for it on the doorstep as they puy priority on the delivery time commitment.  Whereas ParcelFarce hold the package and write you a letter (!) telling you that you need to pay before delivery.  If it is sent by the shipper's national Post Office it will fall into the hands of Royal Mail/ParcelFarce and languish in their clearance facility, in the case of the latter this is a black hole depot in Coventry, and you will be charged £12.50 for 'clearance'.  Royal Mail/ParcelFarce do not regard themselves  as bound by another country's post office service delivery guarantees.  Royal Mail/ParcelFarce do not regard themselves  as bound by another country's post office service delivery guarantees.

@Sam I can´t even remember why I stopped buying from EtCetera, I think it had something to do with stupid long waiting time on another product, which they never adviced me about before taking my money.
But I will do that in the future.
For further info the boxed disc set they wanted £22.89 for in VAT/Import duty on a £24.99 set of discs, they were returned to sender.
