I know you listed some things in the original post, but you have done a system restore, and I am not sure how things are currently set on your system.

1.  What is current driver mode set to in Sonar?
2.  Are interface drivers installed in Wind 7?  What specific version?
3.  What is default audio device for your system set to for Windows?
4.  Have you tried going into Device Manager and disabling the Realtek audio?
5.  Does Device Manager show your interface under Sound, Video, and Game controllers?  Does it show as working properly?
6.  Have you checked on Firewire compatibility issues between your computer's Firewire chipset and your interface?  (run OHCITool.exe from Focusrite:  http://www.focusrite.com/...r/attachments/OHCI.zip )

Please review and respond to all of the above.  It will help us to help you,

Bob Bone

In your 1st post you mention the Saffire is set to default audio & recording in Win7's control panel - has it always been set to that?
I'd try setting the Win7 default to the Realtek - it may be locking the Saffire driver so Sonar can't access it.

I'm not familiar with Win7 but I think it's worth a try.

Thanks for the help. It seems like it is working now - after full re-install of FSP24dsp mix control Version3 (latest) and full re-install of Sonar 2. I may not have helped myself when working the preferences/audio/devices/input drivers/output drivers window. I needed to unselect the one to reselect the other driver options. Oops. I didn't have this trouble when I first installed Sonar 2 about 10 days ago. I've clicked on so many things now that I'm not sure if it was me ... or Sonar. Whatever it was ... in my mind I was stuck on the realtek drivers. Sooo... In summary I did system restore, re-installed saffire mix control, re-installed sonar 2 times. After the system restore/reinstall - I was "stuck" on an ASIO generic driver as a single input and output (all the proper saffire drivers were below it and greyed out). In total frustration I re-installed the FSP24dsp drivers and Sonar again. After the second Sonar full install - I stumbled across the feature that I had to unselect the generic ASIO driver before I could select the greyed out saffire drivers. In the end - it looks like it is working now. What helped throw me off - and still does is the preferences/audio/sync and caching/record latency device - which for me shows generic low latency ASIO driver (1 in 1 out). In the pull down it has ASIO Saffire (8 in, 4 out). I thought I was supposed to select it. However - when I do ... and hit "apply" ... it always reverts back to the generic low latency ASIO driver. I thought this was messing things up. Is it? Thanks for the help. This has taken most of the night ... and I gotta go back to my income earning work. thanks IW

I would disable the Realtek completely. I think Windows is getting confused.
