This time around I've got a short classical piece for piano and strings.   I haven't done anything like this in, well, probably a few years.   So I'm curious to see how the strings in particular translate (GPO + KH Solo Strings 1).

Hi all,
Thanks to everyone's comments I've just uploaded version two: https://soundcloud.com/st...hi/early-winter-mix-v2
It's still not exactly as I hear it in my head, but I think that it should be somewhat an improvement.

Nice piece! Excellent playing and mix sounds good. Overall the strings sound pretty good ,there were a couple of spots when you were doing the fast runs that I thought they were losing the realism but overall they sounded pretty good!
What it really needs is a steel guitar! (just kidding!)

edit: Oh yeah piano sounded good too!

Thanks, Monty!  I know what you mean about the fast runs - that's a technique I'll have to work on.  I think I also need to work on getting the high violin parts to sit within the mix better, though that's a harder one for me to tell for sure.

But regarding the pedal steel, you didn't catch those parts?  They're all over the place!  No, really.

FWIW, the piano is AK and Eighty Eight layered together.   That combination just seems to work for me.

Very interesting piece. There are some passages in there that I really like. :) The piano sounds pretty real, as does the cello. The main problems are the higher string and the violin leg parts, they need a lot of work. Good luck. :)

Thanks, Gus!    Yeah, I think I've got some homework to do for getting the violin parts to gel more like the real thing.  I may even swap out GPO in those instances since I think it may be more "metallic" in the higher registers than KH strings.     Onward.

Thanks, Chas!

Thanks, Wookie.  I have some ideas, but I suppose I'll have to see at what level they pan out...    (bad DAW humour)
