  • East West Play software sample playback too short

Hi - I just signed up for the Composer Cloud from East West, and would like to know if there is a way to be able to keep solo violin sounds (like from Gypsy) sustained for longer than it currently allows - the sounds retrigger after a few seconds, very noticeably, and then simply stop after a couple more seconds.

I picked up Composer Cloud to primarily use the solo  violin sounds from Gypsy and from Solo Violin, but both seem to exhibit the same sort of termination of playback much too soon for some of the note lengths I want to use them to create.

Any workarounds for this?

Not currently except for rendering to audio and then stretching the audio for each note you wish to have sustain longer. The solo instruments are meant to give you what a real player could do. Infinite sustain is not something a live player can do without changing bow direction.

If there is a way for me to continue a note's sustain through a bowing change of direction, I am all ears, as what I am recreating is indeed a long sustained note from an actual violin player.

It's just that the length of sustain I need is longer than what appears to be available through simply holding a note down for the Gypsy solo violin sample playback, and the same for another of their violin sounds - Hollywood Solo Violin.

I am new to East West, and this is why I am asking here, how to be able to sustain a violin note for longer than what is provided for by simply holding down a key on my midi controller, whether it be from some settings change, or from some combination of loading multiple instruments, or from some key switch or other parameter to effect such a sustained note.

Thanks,

are there any keyswitches on the patch your using which gives a longer sustain?

I'm a complete noob with EW Play, and because of my eyesight, I am having great difficulty seeing text displayed on the Play UI, so I am seeing and learning very slowly.  I will certainly check that, as well as figure out what folks do when they add multiple instruments to the same instance - is THAT part of getting the articulations needed?

I just saw that lots of folks had reported seeing that same issue with sample playback getting cut off too short, so I thought I would fire off a quick post about it.

I did download all the documentation, and will be working through it to try to get my skill level up to Kontakt-comparable levels.  (I have had Kontakt for many years now).

A lot of the sample library companies have cut back on adding a longer sustain on violin notes because they are opting for realism vs something you can't really do with a real violin. This is one of my biggest complaints about Bohemian because those long notes I want to do I can't because it reaches the end of the bow and requires a rebow. Fine for most things but a really slow song, I want to drag it out and it won't let me.

That's fine - like having a range of notes that only a real violin can play, but in my case I am replicating what was done WITH a real violin, so I need to figure out out to get the job done.
