Hi,

And this is, easily, one of the best concerts I have ever seen, right next to Return to Forever with Jean Luc Ponty in Eugene.
The whole thing was amazing, and a total sensory treat. And yes, it did pay off to close your eyes, as suggested and hear the music ... the musicianship was insane to say the least. And 3 drummers? ... SUBLIME!
As soon as I saw the DGM in the URL, I knew it was King Crimson. Been a fan since Court of the Crimson King. I love the way they took over ownership of their own works. DGM is a good model.
I first heard CofCK played straight through, front to back, on an a clear channel AM radio station out of Little Rock, AK. From 5am to midnight, it was a country truckers station. But from midnight to 5am, it was the best progressive music station in the country. I can't remember the name of the DJ, but he was famous. After dark, when the clear channel AM stations started bouncing, you could get them all over the place (like driving between WI and CO to see my g/f).
Any who...one night, middle of winter, I was driving 5 sleeping dudes back to Madison from a skiing trip to Devil's Head in a terrific college car (a beat up '61 Dodge 4 door with push button automatic AND 4 holes in the floor!). It only had an AM radio, but I was able to get the Little Rock station. 30 minutes into the drive, the DJ announced that a new LP had just come in from a new band, King Crimson, and he was just gonna play it straight through.
OMG. I tried waking the other 5 and failed. Their loss. What a revelatory experience! I can't begin to tell you how much money that one car ride has cost me over the years in LPs, cassettes, CDs, more CDs, even more CDs (geez, but Fripp is good at rereleases!), VHS (legit and a bunch of boots), DVDs, and now Blu-ray. Criminy. Of, and let's not forget concert tickets. I can remember paying $5.00 to see KC. Ha! Not today.
I've not seen the modern line-up. I envy you that!
