I do wish some time was spent expanding functionality and correcting problems with the Step Sequencer.

I happen to use it for drums, largely because I never put in any time at all on figuring out how to do things in PRV, and staff view is a nightmarish mess.

But, for what I am doing with it, Step Sequencer is working - pretty much.

Summing, +1 on the please fix it and add what would seem to be basic functions thought,

Your point 3 - use the usual split tool.

As for your other points, sorry but I've never seen any of the behaviour you're seeing so can't offer any thoughts. And yes, the step sequencer is intended for programming rather than playing. It's a software version of hardware step sequencers.

Hey, Kenneth - you can add more notes to the number of notes displayed, increasing the range for the SS clip, and you can also increase the number of beats - up to 64 - and also sub-divide each beat into some number of steps per beat.  (I don't know what that limit is, I just do it for 1/32 notes or setting up a measure for entering triplets and such).

If you instead meant you cannot zoom on the clip itself, to magnify its contents, then you are probably correct.

You are CERTAINLY correct in the Step Sequencer needing some developer time as there are basic design flaws on top of missing functionality.

Thanks Bob, and yeah I meant that you can't zoom the actual gui and fit more into the same screen as you can in the PRV and my patterns are never short enough to fit so then you have to scroll.

I meant the Step Record with the bugs, the second record mode. I think it's much much better than using the step sequencer. But it's so badly bugged that it's not worth using. The shortcuts in Sonar grabs just about all the keys you need to use it without the mouse. You can do everything you can in the step sequencer with step record, only faster and with much more control.

I pretty much use SS for drums and I am doing them one measure at a time because every measure is different, but I like having to just click on the little boxes and with a drum map it is pretty idiot proof - which is good for me.

:)

One of these days I EALLY need to learn about the PRV, as it seems to be quite popular on getting events captured and edited without a lot of fanfare.  It is just SOOOOO foreign to me - but I will set some time aside and try to learn about using it.  Thanks to all those who keep insisting it is the way to go - you leave me no choice but to give it a shot :)
