I am holding off upgrading because of cakewalks history of unstable releases.  Is this one worth jumping into or should I wait for a couple hotfixes to be released first?

The general consensus seems to be much more positive than when X1 was released and YMMV. In my case, X1 PE (build 535) is so stable for the use I make of it, that I'm not considering moving to X2 for now. But that's my personal choice and certainly does not mean that I don't trust X2..., if anyone wonders.

And the same goes for Windows 8. I'm very satisfied with Win 7 Pro (x64), that their's really no incentive for me to make the move.

It's working pretty well for me but I am looking forward to the first patch to get rid of some of the glitchy behavior. The stuff the Quick Fix deals with don't apply to me (so far). I'd say it's ALMOST as stable as X1 with the D patch. Mind you I'm not doing anything too crazy with it but most seem to be having a similar experience with their installs. You could also just get it and install it side by side with X1 to check it out and revert back if you find it too unstable. That's what I intended to do but I like it so much I just stuck to using X2. Cheers.

Im kinda holdin off myself as well with Win 8 out and all the newness of X2.

Hoping a lot of stuff will get worked out and fixed up before I jump.

Being patient is the hard part for me, Kinda like seeing everyone on the play ground with a new toy and being grounded to the corner while it all goes on

I dont think "history of unstable releases" is a fair comment... x1 initial release certainly was sub par to be sure..but that is not a trend.. more of a one-off data point.

x2 is not quite as stable as X1c was for me, however if you want to wait for any software to be stable you will end up buying it three months before the next upgrade... or never buying it at all...lol

All fair comments... incredibly I jumped onto X2 after watching the webinar and being impressed by the musicality.... it stunned me and brought this persons focus back to the music. I was close to jumping off Sonar but X2 showed something I haven't quite seen in the other offerings.

Hopefully the focus remains on the music now and not all the distractions that can go along with getting that aim achieved. There's a lot of help in these forums too if you run into any trouble.

Cheers.

Thats an interesting perspective.  Can you be more specific about what you find more musical?

Well I'm not Mully and I'm not a power user (yet) but just to toss my two bits onto that... in X1 I was constantly screwing around with the program and not getting much done. In X2 I've been able to play more and fiddle around with annoying crud less. That may have to do with the simple fact I know more about Sonar now but seriously I think it is far easier to work with and I'm actually making music... not trying (and failing miserably) to be a studio tech.

So yeah, to me personally it is much more musical simply because I find it easier to actually make music with. That is extremely important and kind of the point of audio software.

You can run X1 (assuming you are running that) and X2 side by side. So upgrade now and use later if you want. For me for home use I'm using X2, it's fine. If I was using using this for production (i.e. customer paying me) I'd probably wait for the second or third service pack before I started using X2.

I waited a week before upgrading and I kinda regret it a little. The basic stuff works, but when you get under the hood, there are a ton of little things (and a couple of big ones) that make what little hair I have left, come out faster. If you can hold off, it's probably best. Kinda frustrating too because by and large, it's pretty good. But it need TLC.
