I am trying to put images into a post, but am asked for a URL, while the images I want to insert into the post are on the desktop of my computer.

How do I go about this?

You need to upload it to an image host like photobucket or imageshack (you need to create an account) then copy the code from there and paste it into the comment box. This forum prefers BBcode which will start with IMG and end with /IMG each with square brackets around them [ ]. Cheers.

I don't think you can (these forums suck unfortunately when it comes to functionality (in firefox you don't even get the toolbar!). You need to upload elsewhere and point to the URL of the file you uploaded to. I generally upload images to my website and point to that, there may be a simpler way in which case I'm all ears...

Copy your Direct Link from photo bucket 

Next to the smiley face you see the mountain and sun icon?  Select it and it will have a popup to insert your link to your image
OR Select [Ctrl+G]  inside your message

Then when you "Post Message" it will appear

@digi2n... That image button doesn't work for some browsers and for photobucket or other hosts you don't need to use that stuff anyway because it provides the necessary code. Usually those types of buttons are for when you are hotlinking a raw URL. Pressing the button generates the code for you in that instance... but as I said I've never seen it work in Firefox or Opera. Probably works with IE and maybe Chrome but I don't use those.

Also, Peter, use the preview button under the comment box to check to see if your image code is working before submitting. Otherwise you may just end up with the URL in text form. Cheers.

I mainly stick with Chrome and rarely IE9, but Ive never had a problem inserting an image
