Is There a way to save a tempo map from one project and transfer it to another project?

A tempo map is MIDI data. It is possible to save a MIDI file out of SONAR and create new projects by opening the file. This new project will have the tempo map from the MIDI file

There is no way to import a MIDI file and preserve tempo data. The MIDI import process filters out tempo data.

This seems very confusing to me.
You said "new project will have the tempo map from the MIDI file"
but also said "the MIDI import process filters out tempo data".

can saving a midi file with tempo changes be imported back in to Sonar with those same tempo changes?

No, import strips tempo data.

Opening a MIDI file preserves tempo data. Save as a Cakewalk project and the tempo map is saved in the project.

This is why 'Xmas' edition can export/import also as text file ;)
C'mon guys. It is only series of numbers for for every bar. We could put it on paper 'as export' and write back manually in every bar 'as import' but why we have computers? ;) It could be white space separated chain in txt file or whatever else to let easily modify when needed also outside of Sonar.

Now some maybe asking or wondering why didn't I use the 'Drag Audio File to Timeline' feature.

I have Melodyne on my other two machines and cannot authorize it on my Surface. So, no 'Drag and Drop To Find Tempo' feature.
