A driver is a driver Beep.  I feel your pain but that is the price we pay for having choices.

1: We are here to try to help each other
2.  Several folks here have indicated a willingness to assist you, but you have to provide us with enough information to determine potential areas of interest - where things that could cause problems exist within your configured environment.
3.  Please elaborate on exactly what you mean by 'audio only machine' - obviously it's been tweaked for audio processing, but tweaked how?  Sometimes innocent changes can cause trouble with other things.  Maybe if we can review your environment in better detail we can spot something that would help.
4.  Nobody can stop you from churning out messages about how bad things are working for you, and how unfair it is that something should be able to work outside of Sonar and whatever else, but if you want to get some help fixing your problems, you need to get past that stuff and give us the information we ask for, so that we can help.

So, what's it going to be?  The ball is surely squarely in your court.

I stand ready to help, and I would venture to say that others remain so as well,

Bob Bone

Somewhat off topic but it really annoys me that in this day and age we have to watch out for video card mayhem when working with audio. It just shouldn't be a concern in my mind. I'm not playing friggen' Halo or whatever the heck kids are up to these days.

Pong crashed my system the other day.

@John... Bah. It just needs to show the darned crud on the screen. I think all this constantly fiddling and faddling with stuff that has nothing to do with the end goal is unnecessary, yanno? People were recording quality material on Amigas and the like back in the day. That kind of thing happens just to keep the money flowing and justify people's jobs. I may seem like a happy go lucky guy but here's a perfect example of how I'm actually a crusty curmudgeon IRL. I get very upset about these little barriers that to me have no real value and I will and do crank about them. I just don't have much to complain about with Cakewalk so you guys don't see it as much. That speaks volumes to the company and their product. If it truly was as bad as some make it out to be I'd be screaming bloody murder. And now back to our regularly scheduled wide eyed Beepster enthusiasm. ;-)

Timidi - please read:

I looked at the specs you listed above, and according to the ASUS site:

1.  Your listed bios is 1704.  The current bios revision for that motherboard is 3507.  The 3507 release and the one before it look like they address stability issues.  Maybe there is something there - please consider updating your system bios to the current level offered by ASUS.  In fact, I lookat all of the bios revisions releasde since 1704, and MANY of these deal with system stability.

Here is the link I found for ASUS updates for your motherboard:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8P67/#download

Perhaps you could also review other component upgrades and make sure everything is patch current.

We will stand together to support each other - it's why we are here in this forum - connected users of a common DAW.  We will try to provide helpful information.  I think it is also safe to speak for others here to say that most will only invest time and effort on someone's individual problems if the individual posting the problems is willing to invest in finding a solution as well.

Make a choice and we will respond or not accordingly,

Oh yeah... I forgot about the ASUS BIOS updates. You gotta get those. I spent a LOOOOOONG time updating my ASUS MOBO thingies. Just don't install the AI suite BIOS monitor. It's garbage and REFUSES to be uninstalled. It's one of the reasons I want to completely wipe my system at some point. Even CCleaner won't get rid of it and there are tons of complaints online bemoaning this fact. The actual BIOS, USB, Firewire, etc updates are imperative though.

and I'll say I like timidi. He's a good feller and good fellers deserve to have X2 being awesome for them. Cheers.

Tim,
If you look at my sig you'll see that I too have a similar setup as you.  Different video card (I have Nvidia) , sound card is Echo Mia, and memory is a different brand but 16 gig (4x4).  But same MB and CPU.

So far my system has been running X2 pretty stable.  I have had some quirks with the audio engine sometimes just stopping during playback.  But little things like that doesn't bother me that much since I know the bakers are still tweaking things for more updates...per everyone's bug reports.

But problems as drastic as yours definitely has something to do with a clash somewhere in your PC...most likely a driver.
