Hello! Is it possible to use several midi-devices in one track [as "midi input"] (Sonar X1 Studio)? I want to use several - but not all (!) - midi-devices (midi-interface, virtual loop-midi-cable) in one track. Is that possible? I did only find the possibility to choose "midi omni" or singular devices. Is there another possibility to canalize several midi devices in one track?

Not at all sure why you would want to do that.

Wouldn't it be better to assign a midi track to each potential controller, each assigned to the same synth?  This would make future editing much simpler, if you wanted to later on change some aspect of what one of the controllers did.

You would just enable all of these midi tracks for recording and then which ever one you were using at any one time would record its own events on its own track.

I think it would be a nightmare to go in later to split any one controller's events out from a combined mess.

There is no option to select multiple discrete choices as an input in a Sonar midi track, however omni simply does that for you... you can simply sum two different source inputs on the same channel...or you can combine multiple channels at will using two controllers or more, each to their own channel or one controller with zones (splits/layers).. you can even insert the sonar midi arpeggiator to work on one of those channels...

If you mean can you have selected multiple controllers & channels assigned as inputs to one MIDI track the answer is yes.

On a MIDI track click on the MIDI input and select "Manage Presets...."

From there you can choose any combination of input devices and channels to save as a preset. Repeat as many times as you want and the presets are then available to select as inputs on MIDI tracks.

I use quite a few myself.

No books from me, only videos. Scott is the book expert, but yes I do cover MIDI input presets in the SWA Complete X2 video.

The way you do those clips, you should do the Jeopardy video answers.  Give Alex a call,
