  • Will X2 Producer work okay with an AMD dual core processor?

I have a Compaq with an AMD Athlon dual core with 4 GB of memory.  X1 Producer works fine with this setup. The specs for X2 Producer call for a AMD Phenom quad core processor.

Will I have to upgrade my processor or do you think it will be sufficient for X2?

Thanks,
Sam

the minimum system specs for x1 were ..AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 Ghz... so as i suspect x2 is not a significant increase in cpu demaind over x1 you may be ok..  but only you can make that decision.. you can always download the demo.

Don't think a demo exists yet.

I can tell you this - at www.microcenter.com you can if need be get a new AMD Phenom II 965 black edition quad-core 3.something GHZ cpu for something like $89, and they even throw in a free motherboard, or severalothers to choose from with a $40 discount.

So even if it didn't work on your current system, you could pretty cheaply upgrade your machine to a pretty good amount of horsepower.

X2 is well worth purchasing - and the CPU upgrade may not be needed, but if is it is not too much extra

So far, X2 seems to run fine on my Athlon 64 X2 6400+ with 6GB memory. But as they say, individual results may vary.

For what it's worth, I was convinced I needed to get a totally new PC to upgrade from X1 to X2.

I decided to try it once on my 5-year old Dual-core. 6 gig, Windows Vista PC using a 10-year old, outdated EMU 1820 PCI-based audio interface. I installed the 64-bit version.

Viola! It actually started up, and has worked flawlessly (so far) in recording and playing back MIDI and audio tracks from external sound modules. It also called up a very effects-heavy project I had created in Sonar 8.5. The only time it's crashed (so far) is when I called up a really effects-loaded project that may have contained effects that I took off when I deleted 8 and 8.5 from my system.

So...crossing my fingers that it will continue to work well with my 'old clunker.'

Same exact setup here, running Windows 7...  I just purchased a new hard drive and loaded windows 8 (dual boot).   I will be testing X2 on it this hardware configuration this weekend for grins....

Thanks much for all your helpful suggestions. I think I will trek on over the microcenter and see what they can do for me.

Good call.  I would suggest you chat with them on which motherboard upgrade makes sense for you.  Since this machine will be with you for probably a couple of years or more, you might want to get one that has the 6.0 gbs SATA drive support, as well as USB 3.0

And IF you need new memory, you can get 2 4 GB strips for about $40.  8 GB is plenty for most folks.

x2 works on my amd dual core 2ghz on 64bit windows 7. there was a noticeable gain in performance using 64 bit sonar compared to 32bit. of course this is under powered so don't expect to be able to use too many effects or softsynths.
