Hi Alexander,
The comment about Fresh Batteries was a reference to power supply fortitude. The symptom you describe, in the absence of some specific ducking effect being applied, is a heads up that the power supply of a system may not be stout enough to handle the bass without exhibiting the symptom of momentary power loss. The concept isn't just related to batteries but also power supplies hooked up to wall power.
I guess I should have listened to "D is For" earlier... I like what you did with it.
Never the less, my comment about "Once in a Lifetime" was not based on an expectation of hearing an exact copy of that song. Far from it, I enjoy the idea that you were pushing it away from that sort of expectation. My comment was a veiled attempt to suggest that I was left with the impression that you had not listened to your own mix critically. People that are familiar with my habits know that I rarely offer suggestions on what I think "you" should do with your mix, and the very few times I do are occasions when I sense there is something really cool going on... something cool enough that it makes me want to make some attempt at steering someone in the direction I think they are trying to head towards. This was one of those occasions, and I thought applying some critical listening and then making choices, that suit your personal interest, would be a good thing for that song.
Anyways, I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I've been listening to all your other stuff the past few minutes and I really dig it. I like the sense of adventure. The mashing of fresh sounds, and the quirky sensibility. I hope you keep sharing music with us. I'll be lurking around and listening.
all the best,
mike
