Bob, thanks for your patience. Checked with other cable, same result, it does not move to complete installation. I will turn to Bronze Member before I track my first track

Yeah, I hear you.

You made me a Silver.  :)

What is the EXACT name of the driver FILE that you downloaded and tried to install?

OK  IF your attempt with a new cable does not work,

We will try two different driver versions from the Roland site.  They are not made for Win 7, but sometimes Vista and even XP drivers sometimes work better than the ones they release for Win 7.

Given that this driver we have been trying to install is VERSION 1, this may be something contributing to this problem.

So, have you installed using a different cable?  trying that again with other USB ports?

If no to the above,

then

1.  Download the Vista 64-bit driver: http://www.rolandus.com/s...A_25_win_vista_x64.zip

2.  While you are there, also download the XP x-64 driver too: http://www.rolandus.com/s...a/UA25_XPx64Drv101.EXE

After downloading both of these, start with the Vista one - unzip it and copy contents to another folder first, then run the install.

If THAT does not work, unzip the XP driver folder, copy contents to another folder and run THAT one.

Please do the above only as needed. and only after you tell me what happened when you tried using the different cable in different USB ports.

Bob, I already tried different cables in various USB ports. It didn't help. Off to Vista and XP

After launching "setup" of Vista driver I got the message "The operating system you are using is not supported". Off to try XP

When installing XP window pops up saying that driver is incompatible with operating system and setup will be terminated

In the meantime I have installed edirol on my old dusty laptop (celeron. XP) with no problem

Wow, this is a long thread.
I have not read it all, so forgive me for butting in.
I just wanted to point out another method to install.
Use the Device Manager, click on 'Sound, video and game controllers' and right click on your current audio driver. Select properties.
In properties, select Driver and in Driver select 'Update Driver...'

When the Update panel appears, select 'Browse my computer...' and select the folder where your new driver is located.

If you already tried this, I apologize and I'll butt out.

It may also help if you disable the motherboard audio in your BIOS setup, but that isn't essential.
