Hi guys,

So basically i come from the land of Pro Tools and cakewalk 9 (old skool i know), and i really dig the set up of the latest Sonar platforms. What is really bugging me and i can never find anything to educate myself on this, is i cant edit any of my guitar, vocal or instrument takes once ive recorded them like i could in Pro Tools.

By this, i mean for example i could just record a track, click and drag over it and pretty much delete parts of it, snip it, cut it, edit the .wav and pre roll over it, but with Sonar i cannot find a way to do this, and its pretty much the only reason i dont use it and its annoying as hell! This is basic editing stuff and i still cant find how to do it.

If your'e still confused on what i mean, i basically just want to edit the audio file, but when i double click the .wav in Sonar it goes big and i cant do anything? Even in Cakewalk 9 i can edit the audio take to some extent even though its basic and old as hell!!

What am i missing here guys, can anyone chuck me a tutorial video or school me on this so i can FINALLY use sonar and rid myself of the filth that Pro Tools is?

Thanks in advance!

Mitch

Hi - Welcome to the land of Sonar.

Can you do me and all the folks in the forum a favor?  Look for where it lets you edit your profile, and then look for the signature part of that.  If you can, please list out your computer and software specs in that signature, so we all know what your computer setup is.  It will help us all out for all future posts.  Look at the bottomof my post, and you will see what I mean.

All that aside - sorry - it just will make it easier for us to help you with anything else, and help will be seen to be much fast for you, because we will have a clue as to what platform you are running things on.

I am in the midst of wrapping up helping someone who is in Europe and it is quite late there.

If you can possibly give me 5-10 minutes to finish helping them, I PROMISE I will come back and do my best to give you whatever help you need to resolve this issue.

OK?

Thanks, there really are a bunch of folks in this forum who will bend over backwards to help each other, especially newcomers.

Mitch which Sonar version are you using now? If X2 check out the smart tool. All you that you want to do is done with it or an individual one. Though its easy to do its not simple to describe all the editing tools you have available to you.

Mitch, take a look at this online documentation for the Sonar Smart Tool.  Let me know if this answers ANY of your questions on how to do things.

Thanks,

Make sure you have the smart tool enabled which I believe is the default in track view.  DONT double click your clip. You can slip edit, drag, etc... with single clicks. Also right click the clip will give you some more options as well.

You should see the editing features pop up as you hover over the ends of the clips
